Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with strong hands-on experience in PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and MySQL.

The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in database architecture and design, query optimization, performance tuning, administration, scalability, troubleshooting, and automation.

This is an AI-driven DBA role. Candidates must actively use AI tools in their day-to-day database work to improve productivity, troubleshoot issues faster, optimize SQL, analyze performance, assist with database design, and automate routine DBA activities.

Our interview process will have a significant focus on AI-assisted DBA problem solving, in addition to evaluating solid database fundamentals.

Key Responsibilities

- Design scalable, reliable, and high-performance databases using PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and MySQL.
- Design database schemas, tables, indexes, relationships, constraints, stored procedures, functions, and other database objects.
- Review and optimize complex SQL queries for performance and scalability.
- Analyze query execution plans, identify bottlenecks, and recommend appropriate indexing and optimization strategies.
- Perform database performance tuning, monitoring, troubleshooting, and capacity planning.
- Manage database installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, backup, restore, and recovery.
- Design and maintain backup, disaster recovery, high availability, and replication strategies.
- Monitor database health, storage utilization, locks, blocking, deadlocks, long-running queries, CPU/memory utilization, connections, and other performance indicators.
- Implement database security, access controls, auditing, and data-protection best practices.




- Support development teams with database architecture, schema design, SQL reviews, and performance reviews.
- Automate repetitive DBA, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting activities.
- Troubleshoot production database issues and perform root-cause analysis.
- Work with large transactional databases and continuously improve database performance, scalability, and reliability.

AI-Driven DBA Expectations Hands-on use of AI is a key requirement for this position.

Candidates should be comfortable using tools such as ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Claude, Gemini, or other AI coding/database assistants as part of their daily workflow.

We expect candidates to demonstrate practical use of AI for:

- SQL query generation and optimization
- Query execution plan analysis
- Index recommendations and validation
- Database schema and architecture reviews
- Troubleshooting performance problems
- Root-cause analysis
- Generating DBA scripts and automation
- PostgreSQL, MS SQL, and MySQL configuration analysis
- Database monitoring and log analysis
- Data analysis and anomaly identification
- Documentation and operational runbooks
- Converting repetitive DBA activities into automated workflows

Candidates must understand that AI-generated recommendations cannot be applied blindly. Recommendations should be validated using database fundamentals, execution plans, performance metrics, testing,



and appropriate production change controls.

Required Skills

- 36 years of hands-on database administration and database engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
- Strong hands-on experience with MySQL.
- Strong understanding of relational database architecture and database design.
- Excellent SQL and query optimization skills.
- Experience with indexing strategies and execution plan analysis.
- Experience with database performance tuning and troubleshooting.
- Experience with backup, restore, recovery, replication, and high availability.
- Strong understanding of transactions, locking, blocking, deadlocks, concurrency, and isolation levels.
- Experience monitoring and supporting production databases.
- Ability to diagnose complex database problems independently.
- Experience automating DBA activities using scripting and/or automation tools.
- Regular hands-on use of AI tools for database engineering and DBA activities.

Added Advantage Experience in any of the following will be an advantage:
- Working with very large databases and high-volume transactional systems.
- Performing analytics on large/heavy datasets.
- Data warehousing or analytical database workloads.
- ETL/data pipelines and large-scale data processing.
- Cloud-managed databases such as Azure SQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Azure Database for MySQL, AWS RDS, or similar platforms.
- Database migration and modernization projects.
- Cross-database migrations involving MS SQL, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.
- Python, PowerShell, Bash, or other scripting languages.
- AI-assisted database monitoring, optimization, troubleshooting, or automation.
