AS400 Technical Lead | IBM iSeries | RPG/CL | P&C; Insurance

We are seeking an experienced AS400 Technical Lead with 8-10 years of expertise in IBM i (AS400/iSeries) technologies. The ideal candidate will possess strong hands-on experience in RPG, CL, System 36, COBOL, and IBM i administration, along with deep knowledge of Property & Casualty Insurance business processes.

The role involves leading development, enhancement, modernization, and support of mission-critical insurance applications, ensuring system stability, scalability, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the design, development, and enhancement of AS400/iSeries-based insurance applications.
- Develop and maintain RPG, RPGLE, CL/CLLE, System 36, and COBOL applications.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate insurance requirements into technical solutions.
- Perform impact analysis, code reviews, and technical solution design.
- Support policy administration, claims processing, billing, underwriting, and reporting systems.
- Administer IBM i environments, including user management, job scheduling, backup monitoring, and performance tuning.
- Conduct system integration testing and coordinate production deployments.
- Ensure adherence to coding standards, security guidelines, and audit requirements.




- Monitor production systems and resolve application issues to maintain availability.
- Mentor team members and drive technical best practices.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation and knowledge artifacts.

Required Skills
- 6-10 years of experience in AS400 / IBM iSeries development.
- Strong expertise in RPG, RPGLE, ILE RPG, CL, CLLE, and COBOL.
- Experience with System 36 environments and legacy modernization initiatives.
- Good understanding of DB2/400 and SQL programming.
- Hands-on experience in IBM i administration activities.
- Expertise in batch processing, job scheduling, system monitoring, and performance tuning.
- Robust analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience working directly with business and functional stakeholders.

Preferred Skills
- Property & Casualty Insurance domain experience.
- Experience in policy administration and claims management systems.
- Exposure to application modernization and migration initiatives.
- Knowledge of DevOps or automation practices in IBM i environments.

Preferred Certifications
- IBM i / AS400 Certification.
- Insurance certifications such as AINS or equivalent.
