Job Purpose
To perform radiographic film interpretation (RTFI) activities for welded joints and fabricated components, ensuring compliance with project specifications, client requirements, and applicable international codes and standards. The role is responsible for identifying welding discontinuities, preparing interpretation reports, and supporting quality assurance activities throughout the fabrication process.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret radiographic films and digital radiographic images of welds, piping systems, pressure vessels, and structural components.
- Evaluate radiographs for weld discontinuities including:
- Porosity
- Slag Inclusions
- Lack of Fusion
- Lack of Penetration
- Cracks
- Undercuts
- Tungsten Inclusions
- Miscellaneous weld defects
- Review radiographs against applicable acceptance criteria.
- Verify film quality, density, sensitivity, and image quality indicators (IQI).
- Prepare RT film interpretation reports and maintain inspection records.
- Coordinate with QA/QC Engineers, Welding Inspectors, and Production teams regarding repair and re-inspection requirements.
- Ensure traceability of welds, radiographic films, and inspection reports.
- Participate in client and third-party inspections.
- Maintain RT film storage, indexing, and retrieval systems.
- Assist in preparing manufacturing record books (MRB) and quality dossiers.
- Ensure compliance with HSE requirements related to NDT operations.
Educational Qualification
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Technology, Metallurgy, or a related discipline.
- Higher Secondary qualification with extensive RT interpretation experience may also be considered.
Certification Requirements
- Valid RT Level II Certification as per:
- ASNT SNT-TC-1A
- ISO 9712
- PCN
- Equivalent internationally recognized certification
- Additional certifications in UT, MT, and PT will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 5-8 years of experience in NDT and RT Film Interpretation.
- At least 3 years of experience in Offshore Oil & Gas, Modular Fabrication, Shipyard, EPC, or Heavy Engineering projects.
- Experience in interpretation of:
- Structural Steel Welds
- Piping Welds
- Pressure Vessels
- Process Equipment
- Offshore Modules and Skids
