About the Role

Elkanio is hiring Python Developers to join an established engineering team working on a prestigious B2C travel experience booking platform. The product is live, has real users, and is scaling — we're expanding the team to accelerate the roadmap and strengthen delivery.

You'll be working with an experienced engineering team on an existing production platform, contributing to new features, enhancements, integrations, performance improvements, and ongoing platform evolution.

This role is ideal for a developer with around 3 years of hands-on experience who is comfortable working with an existing codebase, can understand requirements and translate them into clean technical solutions, and is eager to take increasing ownership of backend modules and features.

What You'll Do

- Develop new features and enhance existing functionality using Python and Django.
- Work within an established production codebase, understand existing implementations, and follow established coding and architectural patterns.
- Develop, enhance, and maintain RESTful APIs supporting search, booking, payments, user journeys, and other platform capabilities.
- Translate functional requirements into clean, maintainable, and testable technical implementations.
- Work with PostgreSQL and other data stores to implement efficient data models, queries, and data-access logic.
- Integrate and maintain third-party services including payment gateways, mapping services, communication platforms, and travel-domain APIs.
- Implement appropriate error handling, validation, logging, and exception management for backend services and integrations.
- Participate in troubleshooting and resolution of application and production issues.
- Investigate bugs, identify root causes, and implement reliable fixes rather than only addressing symptoms.
- Write unit tests and contribute to improving test coverage and application quality.
- Participate actively in code reviews, technical discussions, and team development practices.
- Work closely with senior developers, product teams, QA, and other stakeholders to deliver features within agreed timelines.
- Monitor application performance and contribute to identifying and resolving basic performance bottlenecks.
- Follow established security, coding, version-control, and development best practices.




- Contribute to technical documentation and keep API and implementation documentation up to date.
- Gradually take ownership of individual features or modules and become the technical point of contact for assigned areas.

What We're Looking For
- Around 3 years of hands-on software development experience, with strong experience in backend development.
- Strong programming skills in Python with practical experience using Django.
- Good understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, exception handling, and clean coding practices.
- Good understanding of RESTful API development, including API design, request/response handling, validation, authentication, and error handling.
- Experience working with PostgreSQL and writing efficient SQL queries.
- Working knowledge of MongoDB or other NoSQL databases is an advantage.
- Good understanding of database concepts including relationships, indexing, transactions, and query optimization.
- Experience consuming and integrating third-party APIs and services.
- Good understanding of Git and collaborative development workflows such as branching, pull requests, and code reviews.
- Familiarity with Docker and basic understanding of containerized application development.
- Basic familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms.
- Understanding of software development lifecycle, testing, debugging, and deployment processes.
- Ability to understand and work with an existing production codebase.
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while knowing when to seek guidance.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.

What We Expect at This Level

At around three years of experience, we're looking for someone who can independently handle development tasks while continuing to grow technically.

- Follow established architecture and design patterns while contributing suggestions for improvement.
- Identify simple performance, reliability, and maintainability improvements within the areas you work on.
- Participate in technical discussions and learn to evaluate different implementation approaches and trade-offs.
- Write code that is readable, maintainable, testable, and consistent with team standards.
- Take responsibility for investigating and resolving issues in your assigned areas.
- Learn from senior developers and gradually build capability in system design, architecture, scalability, and technical decision-making.

Bonus Points
- Experience working on B2C platforms, particularly travel, hospitality, e-commerce, or other transaction-based platforms.
- Experience working with payment gateways or payment-related workflows.
- Experience integrating booking, inventory, travel, or other third-party APIs.
- Familiarity with AWS services and cloud-based application deployment.
- Experience with background jobs, asynchronous processing, queues, or caching.
- Familiarity with application monitoring, logging, and production troubleshooting.
- Experience working on applications with real users and production workloads.
- Exposure to travel technology such as GDS, NDC, OTA, flight, hotel, or other travel APIs.
