Key Responsibilities
- Plan, source, and procure construction materials (cement, steel, sand, aggregates, plumbing, electrical, finishing materials, etc.) as per project requirements and BOQ.
- Identify, evaluate, and develop reliable vendors/suppliers; negotiate rates, credit terms, and delivery schedules to optimize cost without compromising quality.
- Prepare and process purchase orders (PO) in line with approved budgets and indents raised by site teams.
- Compare quotations from multiple vendors and prepare comparative statements for management approval.
- Coordinate with site engineers and project managers to forecast material requirements and avoid project delays due to material shortage.
- Manage complete store operations including receiving, inspection, storage, issuance, and stock reconciliation of materials at site/warehouse.
- Maintain accurate stock registers, Goods Receipt Notes (GRN), Material Issue Slips (MIS), and inventory records (manual/ERP/Excel).
- Conduct periodic physical stock verification and reconcile with system records; investigate and report discrepancies.
- Ensure proper storage conditions to prevent material damage, pilferage, and wastage; implement FIFO/FEFO practices where applicable.
- Track and follow up on pending purchase orders, delivery schedules, and outstanding vendor payments in coordination with accounts.
- Ensure compliance with company purchase policies, statutory requirements (GST, e-way bills), and documentation standards.
- Prepare MIS reports on procurement status, stock levels, consumption patterns, and cost variances for management review.
- Maintain vendor database, rate contracts, and annual rate agreements for repetitive/high-volume materials.
- Coordinate with logistics/transport for timely delivery of materials to multiple project sites.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Graduate/Diploma in Civil Engineering, Supply Chain, Commerce, or related field (MBA in Materials Management/Operations preferred but not mandatory).
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in purchase and store management, preferably in the construction, real estate, or infrastructure industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, specifications, and market rates.
- Hands-on experience with inventory/ERP software (Tally, SAP, or similar) and MS Excel.
- Excellent negotiation, vendor management, and cost-control skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Ability to multitask across multiple project sites and manage priorities under tight timelines.
- Positive communication and coordination skills to liaise with site teams, vendors, and management.
