Furniture Project Manager
Job summary
This job describes an integrated model covering planning, in-house manufacturing and installation, and its case study specifically describes the project manager controlling installation against the approved floor plan, coordinating readiness, inspecting the completed installation with the client, and obtaining handover.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Sales-to-Project Handover - Take over confirmed PO, BOQ, quotation, approved drawings, specifications, finishes, and client commitments. Ensure complete and accurate project handover from Sales.
2. Scope Validation - Cross-check PO, quotation, BOQ, and drawings. Identify and resolve quantity, specification, and scope discrepancies before execution.
3. Project Kick-Off - Conduct project kick-off meetings with Sales, Design, Engineering, Purchase, Maintenance, Production, QC, Logistics, Accounts and Installation teams. Define responsibilities, timelines, and deliverables.
4. Project Planning &
- Scheduling
- Prepare the master project schedule based on the committed delivery and handover date. Track project milestones and overall progress.
- Site Survey &
- Verification - Coordinate site measurements and verify site conditions, access, lift, loading, flooring, electrical, and other requirements. Ensure site readiness before execution.
- Drawing Coordination &
- Approval - Coordinate preparation and approval of GFC/AFC drawings. Ensure approved drawings are available before production.
- Engineering Release - Coordinate detailed production drawings, BOMs, hardware, and special requirements. Ensure accurate and timely release of production information.
- Change &
- Variation Management - Control all changes and revisions through proper documentation and approvals. Evaluate impact on project cost, timeline, and resources.
- Material Readiness - Monitor project-specific and long-lead materials with Purchase and Planning teams. Ensure materials are available as per the project schedule.
- Production Planning - Coordinate production priorities based on project requirements and installation sequence. Ensure furniture is manufactured as per approved drawings and timelines.
- Production Monitoring - Monitor planned versus actual production progress. Follow up with Production teams and resolve delays or bottlenecks.
- Quality Management - Ensure pre-dispatch inspection of dimensions, finishes, hardware, quantity, and functionality. Ensure products meet approved specifications and quality standards.
- Client &
- Stakeholder Coordination - Act as the primary project contact for clients, architects, PMCs, consultants, and contractors. Conduct regular project review meetings and maintain MOMs.
- Site Readiness Management - Verify civil, flooring, painting, electrical, access, and other site requirements before dispatch. Confirm site readiness for installation.
- Dispatch &
- Logistics Planning - Plan floor-wise/zone-wise dispatch and delivery schedules. Coordinate packing, labeling, transportation, unloading, and material sequencing.
- Installation Planning - Plan installation manpower, supervisors, tools, equipment, and work sequence. Set daily and weekly installation targets.
- Site Execution &
- Monitoring - Monitor daily installation activities and progress against approved drawings and schedules. Ensure installation quality, productivity, and safety requirements are maintained.
- Issue Resolution &
- Escalation - Identify and resolve shortages, damages, drawing mismatches, site obstructions, and other project issues. Track issues with responsible persons and target closure dates.
- Snag Management - Conduct joint inspections with the client/PMC and prepare snag lists. Coordinate with concerned teams for timely snag closure.
- Project Handover - Coordinate final inspection and completion of all pending works. Prepare handover documentation and obtain client sign-off/handover certificate.
- Commercial Closure - Support billing by providing dispatch, installation, handover, and approved variation documents. Coordinate closure of project-related commercial requirements.
- Project Closure &
- Review - Review actual project performance against planned cost, timeline, quality, and resources. Document rework, shortages, delays, lessons learned, and project closure actions.
Qualifications:
1. Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Interior Design, Furniture Technology, or related field.
2. 5–7 years of experience in furniture, interior, or fit-out projects.
3. Good knowledge of furniture manufacturing and installation.
4. Experience in project planning, production, and site execution.
5. Ability to read AutoCAD drawings, BOQ, and project specifications.
6. Good knowledge of MS Excel, MS Office, and ERP software.
7. Good communication and team coordination skills.
8. Solid problem-solving and decision-making skills.
9. Ability to handle clients, contractors, consultants, and internal teams.
10. Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
