Product Manager – BESS & Energy Storage

1. Role Purpose

Loom Solar is building a scalable Energy Storage & BESS business ranging from 1 kWh residential batteries to 1,000 kWh / 1 MWh commercial and industrial Battery Energy Storage Systems.

We are looking for a Product Manager – BESS & Lithium Battery who can own the complete product lifecycle:

Market Research → Product Strategy → Product Specification → Cell/Battery/OEM Selection → BMS → PCS/Inverter Integration → Certification → Product Launch → Sales → Service → Product Profitability The candidate will be responsible for developing a competitive BESS portfolio for residential, commercial, industrial, telecom, solar EPC, microgrid, backup power and energy-management applications.

The role requires a combination of technical depth, product management, commercial understanding and strong execution capability.

2. Product Portfolio

The Product Manager will manage and develop the complete storage portfolio:

Residential

- 1 kWh

- 2.5 kWh

- 5 kWh

- 10 kWh

- 15 kWh

- 20 kWh

Commercial

- 25 kWh

- 50 kWh

- 100 kWh

- 200 kWh

- 261 kWh

- 500 kWh

Industrial / Utility

- 1,000 kWh / 1 MWh

- Modular BESS solutions above 1 MWh as the business expands

The portfolio may include:

Battery Pack + Rack + BMS + PCS + EMS + HVAC + Fire Safety + Container/Cabinet + Monitoring Software

3. Key Responsibilities

A. BESS Product Strategy

Develop the 3-year BESS product roadmap for Loom Solar.

Define

- Residential battery roadmap

- Hybrid inverter + battery combinations

- C&I; BESS roadmap

- AC-coupled BESS

- DC-coupled BESS

- Modular BESS

- Cabinet BESS

- Containerized BESS

- 1 MWh+ systems

Identify market opportunities in
- Rooftop solar

- PM Surya Ghar

- Residential backup

- C&I; peak shaving

- Load shifting

- Demand management

- Solar self-consumption

- Diesel generator replacement

- Microgrids

- Telecom

- EV charging

- Open-access projects

- Solar EPC

- Captive power

- Renewable energy projects

4. Product Development

Own the complete BESS product-development lifecycle.

Customer Requirement → PRD → Technical Specification → Cell Selection → Pack Design → BMS → PCS → EMS → Prototype → Testing → Certification → Pilot → Commercial Launch

Prepare detailed product specifications covering:

- Battery chemistry

- Cell format

- Cell capacity

- Nominal voltage

- Usable energy

- C-rate

- DoD

- Round-trip efficiency

- Cycle life

- Operating temperature

- IP rating

- Communication protocols

- CAN / RS485 / Ethernet

- BMS architecture

- PCS rating

- EMS functionality

- Thermal management

- Fire protection

- Safety systems

- Remote monitoring

- Warranty

5. Lithium Battery Technology

The candidate should understand:
- LFP / LiFePO₄ technology

- Lithium-ion battery architecture

- Cell → Module → Pack → Rack → System

- Battery management systems

- SOC / SOH

- Cell balancing

- Thermal runaway

- Thermal management

- Battery degradation

- C-rate

- Depth of discharge

- Cycle life

- DC protection

- AC protection

- Contactor and pre-charge systems

Experience with LFP-based stationary storage will be strongly preferred.

7. PCS & Inverter Integration

Work closely with engineering and inverter teams to integrate:

Battery + BMS + PCS + Hybrid Inverter + Solar + Grid + Load + EMS

Define

- AC/DC architecture

- Power rating

- Charging power

- Discharging power

- Grid synchronization

- Grid-forming / grid-following requirements

- Black-start capability where applicable

- Backup functionality

- Parallel operation

- Multi-rack operation

- Communication protocols

8. OEM / Supplier Management

Identify and qualify
- Lithium cell manufacturers

- Battery-pack OEMs

- BMS suppliers

- PCS manufacturers

- EMS/software providers

- HVAC suppliers

- Fire suppression suppliers

- BESS enclosure/container manufacturers

Evaluate vendors on

Technology | Quality | Cost | Reliability | Warranty | Certification | Capacity | Lead Time | Service | Financial Stability

Develop supplier scorecards and quarterly vendor reviews.

9. Product Cost & Commercial Ownership

Own the product economics.

Develop product-level:

Continuously drive ₹/kWh cost reduction.

10. Product Pricing

Develop pricing architecture for

Residential

₹/kWh + inverter/system package

C&I;

₹/kWh + PCS + EMS + installation

Large BESS

₹/kWh + EPC + commissioning + O&M;

Track competitor pricing and maintain a monthly:

BESS Market Price Tracker

11. Product Certification & Safety

Coordinate with engineering, quality and certification teams to ensure compliance with applicable Indian and international standards.

Own the certification roadmap covering, as applicable:

- Battery safety

- BMS safety

- EMC

- Electrical safety

- Transportation requirements

- Fire safety

- Grid compliance

- Environmental testing

- Factory acceptance testing

- Site acceptance testing

Maintain a complete BESS technical compliance matrix before launch.

12. Quality & Reliability

Create a closed-loop quality system:

Field Failure → Data → RCA → CAPA → Engineering Change → Validation → Product Improvement

Monitor

The Product Manager should spend meaningful time in the market with the sales organization.

Requirements

- 6–12 years of experience in lithium batteries, BESS, energy storage, inverter or power electronics.

- Strong understanding of LFP battery systems.

- Experience in product development/product management.

- Experience working with battery OEMs.

- Understanding of BMS and PCS.

- Solid understanding of solar + storage systems.

- Experience with commercial negotiations and product costing.

- Strong analytical and project-management skills.
