Role Description The Prep Artist role is a full-time, on-site position based at Basilic Fly Studio’s Chennai facility. Prep Artists support the compositing and VFX pipeline by cleaning plates, removing rigs and markers, creating patches, and preparing shots for seamless integration of visual elements.

Day-to-day tasks include rotoscoping, paint and cleanup, basic tracking and stabilization, and organizing layers and assets for downstream departments. Prep Artists collaborate closely with compositors, supervisors,



and production coordinators to meet project timelines and maintain consistent quality. The role requires attention to detail, a strong eye for continuity, and the ability to follow creative direction while adhering to established workflows.

Qualifications

- Strong foundation in VFX prep tasks, including rotoscoping, paint and cleanup, and plate preparation.
- Proficiency with industry-standard tools such as Nuke, Silhouette, Mocha, or similar compositing and roto software.
- Good understanding of compositing principles, color, layering, and basic tracking/stabilization workflows.
- Ability to interpret shot briefs, follow supervisor feedback, and maintain consistency across multiple shots.
- Strong visual attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and capacity to work efficiently under production deadlines.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate in a fast-paced studio environment.
- Relevant education or training in VFX, animation, multimedia, or a related field; prior studio experience is an advantage.
- Willingness to learn, adapt to evolving workflows, and contribute to a positive and inclusive work culture.
