Company Description Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), established by the Ministry of Railways in 1986, is the premier IT organization supporting the digital needs of Indian Railways. Headquartered in New Delhi with regional offices in major metro cities, CRIS designs and operates information systems for passenger ticketing, freight operations, train control, asset management, and other core railway functions across India, including remote and challenging locations. Its workforce of around 800 professionals combines advanced IT expertise with deep railway domain knowledge, enabling CRIS to deliver robust, cost-effective solutions for complex operational needs.
CRIS actively adopts cutting-edge technologies such as mobile ticketing, GPS-based train tracking, RFID-based asset tracking, and geo-spatial databases, and is building a state-of-the-art data center for railway IT systems. The organization continues to expand into emerging areas including asset protection, energy management, overhead electrification, parcel management, employee health, and comprehensive financial management.
Role Description The Owner at CRIS is a full-time, in office role based in Delhi, India, responsible for strategic oversight and direction of key information systems initiatives for Indian Railways. Day-to-day responsibilities include defining product and project vision, prioritizing technology roadmaps, and aligning IT solutions with operational and regulatory needs of the railway sector. The role involves collaborating with technical teams, railway domain experts,
and government stakeholders to ensure that systems are scalable, secure, and cost-effective.
The Owner reviews project progress, manages risks, and makes decisions on resource allocation, timelines, and quality standards. This position also requires guiding innovation, ensuring adherence to governance and compliance frameworks, and representing CRIS in high-level discussions related to digital transformation of Indian Railways.
Qualifications
- Strong leadership and ownership skills, including experience in driving complex IT or infrastructure programs from concept to implementation.
- Solid background in information technology, systems engineering, or product management, ideally within large-scale, mission-critical or public-sector environments.
- Proven ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including software engineers, architects, operations personnel, and government or regulatory stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage risks, prioritize initiatives, and balance cost, quality, and timelines.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to present technical and business information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Understanding of railway operations, transportation, or large public-service systems is highly beneficial; prior experience in railways or similar domains is an advantage.
- Relevant academic background such as a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Management, or a related field.
