Background
Praan (Praan, Inc.) is an impact focused deep-tech startup democratizing clean air using breakthrough filterless technology. The company is backed by top tier VCs and CXOs globally and currently operates between the United States and India. Our team puts extreme attention to detail and loves building technology that's aspirational. Praan's team and culture is positioned to empower people to solve large global problems at an accelerated pace.
Why?
Everyone worries about the doomsday in climate change which is expected to occur in the 2050s. However, there's one doom's day which is the reality for millions of people around the world today. Air pollution takes more than 7 Million lives globally every single year.
Over 5% of premature children death occur due to air pollution in developing countries. Everyone has relied on governments or experts to solve the problem, but most solutions up until today have either been too expensive or too ineffective. Praan is an attempt at making the future cleaner, healthier, and safer for the generations to come.
We are looking for a detail-oriented and execution-driven Project Engineer to bridge architectural design intent with mechanical and electrical system requirements across retrofit projects.
You will work across design and site execution, reading architectural drawings, coordinating HVAC and other building-system requirements, conducting site surveys, and producing accurate, buildable device-placement drawings. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable working with a drawing set and walking a live site with a tape measure and torch.
What You'll Do
- Review architectural layouts,
reflected ceiling plans (RCPs), elevations, and sections to understand space usage, ceiling heights, soffits, bulkheads, and false-ceiling zones.
- Determine optimal placement of HVAC and related devices including diffusers, grilles, sensors, thermostats, VAV boxes, ducting routes, and other specified equipment.
- Translate design requirements into accurate 2D plan layouts using AutoCAD or Revit MEP, including exact device locations, mounting heights, elevations, and reference details.
- Conduct site surveys and physical measurements to validate as-built conditions against available drawings and flag discrepancies before design finalization.
- Coordinate with architects, interior designers, and other MEP disciplines including electrical, fire, and plumbing to identify and resolve clashes above ceilings and within soffits or bulkheads.
- Develop retrofit solutions for existing buildings where ceiling voids, structural elements, soffit depth, access constraints, or existing services affect standard equipment placement.
- Prepare drawing packages, device schedules, installation markups, and other documentation required by site execution teams and subcontractors.
- Support project engineers and managers with technical inputs during design reviews,
client walkthroughs, and site inspections.
- Ensure device and equipment placements align with applicable HVAC design standards, local building codes, and client or consultant specifications.
- Track drawing revisions and maintain accurate, version-controlled documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Skill Requirements
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, HVAC, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3–8 years of experience in MEP/HVAC design, contracting, retrofit, or building-systems projects.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, air distribution, ducting, diffusers/grilles, and VAV/CAV systems.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D; Revit MEP is a plus.
- Strong ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, RCPs, elevations, and sections.
- Practical understanding of false ceilings, soffits, bulkheads, and overhead services, and how they impact equipment/device placement.
- Prior experience with site surveys, measurements, and site execution, in addition to design-office work.
- Ability to coordinate with architects, interior designers, contractors, and other MEP disciplines to resolve clashes and site constraints.
- Strong spatial reasoning and problem-solving skills, particularly for retrofit and existing-building conditions.
- Strong attention to detail in drawings, documentation, and revisions.
Praan is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on race, religion, caste, gender, disability, or any other criteria. We just care about working with outstanding human beings!
