Job Title: Manager - Payroll & Compliance

We are looking for a highly experienced and hands-on Payroll & Compliance Manager to lead payroll and employee statutory compliance for both our internal organization and external clients across India.

The role requires deep expertise in end-to-end payroll processing, labour law compliance, statutory filings, audits, employee taxation, payroll controls, and client management. The ideal candidate should be capable of independently managing multiple payrolls, handling complex employee cases, ensuring zero compliance gaps, and acting as a subject matter expert for clients and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Management

- Own end-to-end monthly payroll processing for internal employees and multiple external clients across India.
- Manage payroll inputs, validations, deductions, reimbursements, variable pay, incentives, bonuses, arrears and full & final settlements.
- Ensure accurate and timely salary processing within agreed payroll timelines.
- Review payroll registers, variance reports and reconciliation statements before payroll release.
- Manage employee taxation including TDS calculations, investment declarations, Form 16 and related payroll tax requirements.
- Handle payroll-related employee queries and complex payroll escalations.
- Ensure strong maker-checker processes and payroll controls.
- Coordinate with finance teams for payroll funding, accounting inputs and reconciliation.

Statutory & Employee Compliance

- Ensure complete compliance with applicable labour laws and statutory requirements across India.
- Manage compliance related to PF, ESIC, Professional Tax, Labour Welfare Fund, Gratuity, Bonus, Maternity Benefits,



Shops & Establishments and other applicable employment regulations.
- Ensure timely statutory registrations, payments, returns and filings.
- Maintain statutory registers, records and documentation required under applicable labour laws.
- Monitor changes in labour laws and advise internal teams and clients on implications and required actions.
- Support implementation and readiness for applicable Labour Codes and regulatory changes.

Client Payroll & Compliance Management

- Independently manage payroll and compliance requirements for multiple client organizations.
- Act as the primary payroll and compliance SPOC for assigned clients.
- Understand client-specific policies, salary structures and compliance requirements.
- Manage payroll calendars, client inputs, payroll sign-offs and statutory deliverables.
- Conduct regular payroll and compliance reviews with clients.
- Identify compliance risks and proactively recommend corrective actions.
- Handle client escalations with maturity, accuracy and strong subject matter expertise.

Audits & Governance

- Lead payroll and statutory compliance audits.
- Ensure payroll documentation and compliance records are audit-ready at all times.
- Support internal, external, statutory and client audits.
- Develop strong SOPs, checklists, payroll calendars and compliance trackers.
- Drive process improvement and automation within payroll and compliance operations.
- Ensure data confidentiality and adherence to appropriate payroll data controls.

Required Experience & Skills

- Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience in payroll and statutory compliance.
- Strong experience managing multi-client or multi-entity payroll operations.
- Deep knowledge of Indian payroll practices and labour law compliance.




- Strong working knowledge of PF, ESIC, PT, LWF, Bonus, Gratuity, TDS, Shops & Establishments and related regulations.
- Experience handling payroll for employees across multiple Indian states.
- Strong knowledge of salary structures, CTC components, taxation and full & final settlement.
- Experience managing statutory inspections, notices and compliance audits will be highly preferred.
- Strong Excel skills and experience working with payroll/HRMS platforms.
- Excellent attention to detail, numerical accuracy and process discipline.
- Strong client communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to independently handle escalations and advise clients on payroll and compliance matters.

Preferred Background

- Experience with a payroll outsourcing company, HR consulting firm, professional services organization or shared services environment.
- Experience managing payroll for multiple clients simultaneously.
- Exposure to payroll transition and implementation projects.
- Experience working with HRMS/payroll platforms such as Keka, Zoho, SAP, ADP, RazorpayX Payroll or similar systems.
- Strong understanding of payroll controls, reconciliation and payroll accounting interfaces.

What We Are Looking For We are specifically looking for someone who is a strong payroll and compliance subject matter expert, rather than a generalist HR qualified.

The person should be comfortable taking complete ownership of payroll and compliance delivery, managing demanding client situations, identifying risks before they become issues, and building scalable processes as the business grows.
