Great media Technologies is hiring a detail-oriented Legal Associate to support the research, drafting, and case-management work of a U.S. law firm.
This position is suited to a law graduate who can analyse complex documents, write clear skilled English, manage competing deadlines, and take responsibility for assignments without repeated reminders. The work will involve substantive legal support, not merely data entry or document formatting.
Key responsibilities:
- Legal research and analysis: Research relevant U.S. statutes, court rules, and case law. Prepare concise memoranda that distinguish established facts, legal conclusions, uncertainties, and recommended next steps. Verify every authority cited.
- Drafting and document review: Prepare first drafts of pleadings, declarations, discovery requests and responses, correspondence, and other case documents under attorney supervision. Check factual consistency, citations, formatting, and exhibit references.
- Case-file preparation: Review records, correspondence, contracts, and financial documents. Build chronologies, evidence summaries, exhibit indexes, and lists of missing information or inconsistencies.
- Deadline and workflow management: Maintain accurate case trackers and task lists. Record the source and assumptions behind proposed deadlines, obtain attorney confirmation, and escalate missing instructions or deadline risks promptly.
- Professional communication: Draft clear client updates and attorney correspondence. Coordinate document collection, appointments,
and follow-ups within the authority assigned to the role.
- Quality, confidentiality, and accountability: Maintain organised files, version control, and accurate time records. Use only approved systems and AI tools, independently verify their output, and protect confidential information.
Required qualifications:
- Applicants must have at least two years of substantive legal work after completing their qualifying law degree. Student internships do not count toward this minimum.
- Excellent written and spoken English, supported by strong legal drafting and research skills.
- Experience handling legal documents and managing multiple assignments with attention to accuracy and deadlines.
- Proficiency in word processing, tracked changes, PDF review, spreadsheets, and organised electronic case files.
- Sound judgment, receptiveness to feedback, and the ability to identify and escalate issues rather than conceal uncertainty.
- Availability to work from the Kolkata office during the stated U.S.-aligned shift.
Preferred experience:
- Prior experience supporting a U.S. law firm or legal process outsourcing team is an advantage. Particularly relevant experience includes civil or family litigation, discovery, document review, case chronologies, and professional client correspondence.
- Familiarity with U.S. legal research platforms and case-management systems is desirable. Candidates with strong Indian litigation or research experience may also be considered, subject to assessment.
