ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join our Robotics Software team leading the design and development of our fleet orchestration platform for our autonomous mobile robot (AMR) platforms across industrial mobility applications. In this role, you will own the architecture of the fleet management system end to end — backend services, APIs, and the operator-facing interface — covering task allocation, traffic management, and multi-robot coordination.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys owning complex systems end to end, breaking down architecture into clear, ownable pieces for a growing team, and building reliable software in a fast-paced engineering environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the architecture and technical direction of the fleet management platform: backend services, APIs, and the operator/monitoring interface.
- Design and build core fleet logic — task allocation, traffic management, dispatch, and multi-robot coordination.
- Build and maintain VDA5050-compliant communication between the fleet management system and robot controllers.
- Design scalable, fault-tolerant backend services for real-time fleet monitoring, job scheduling, and reporting.
- Define the deployment architecture across cloud and on-premise/edge environments at customer sites, including containerization and monitoring.
- Define APIs and data models for fleet management, deployment, and customer/ERP-MES integrations.
- Break down system components into clear, well-scoped modules that team members can own independently.
- Review code, mentor engineers, and set engineering practices for the team.
- Write and maintain production-grade code directly,
particularly on architecture-critical and high-risk components.
- Debug and resolve escalated issues across fleet software, communication protocols, and field deployments.
- Coordinate with Product, Hardware, and customer-facing teams to align fleet software with deployment requirements.
- Use generative and agentic AI tools as part of the standard development workflow, and evaluate their application to fleet optimization and anomaly detection.
QUALIFICATIONS
- B.E./B.Tech/M.Tech in Computer Science, Robotics, Electronics, or a related engineering discipline.
- 5–8 years of full stack software development experience, including experience owning system architecture and reviewing/guiding other engineers' work.
- Strong backend skills in Python and/or Node.js/Java, with experience designing APIs, services, and data models.
- Proficient in frontend development (React, Angular, or equivalent) for building operator dashboards and monitoring tools.
- Experience deploying and operating services in cloud and on-premise/edge environments, including containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) and basic CI/CD.
- Experience with databases, distributed systems, and real-time communication protocols (MQTT, WebSocket, REST).
- Working knowledge of the VDA5050 protocol for AMR fleet communication and interoperability.
- Basic familiarity with robotics software platforms and concepts will be an added advantage.
- Hands-on comfort using generative AI coding tools/copilots as part of daily development; exposure to agentic AI frameworks is an added advantage.
- Solid ownership mindset, sound architectural judgment, and ability to mentor and guide other engineers in a lean, fast-paced team.
