Role Description Senior Backend Java Developer – Capital Markets / Legacy ModernizationJob Overview

We are seeking a Senior Backend Java Developer to support a legacy modernization and infrastructure decommissioning initiative within a Capital Markets environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with the development team to analyze an existing Java codebase and associated legacy services, understand their functionality and dependencies, and determine how those capabilities can be migrated away from legacy infrastructure onto the current environment.

This is a highly technical, hands-on role requiring strong Java backend development skills combined with an understanding of Capital Markets and Front Office concepts .

Direct Murex Experience Is Not Required. Key Responsibilities

- Review and analyze an existing legacy Java code repository and associated backend services.
- Reverse-engineer existing services to understand their functionality, business purpose, dependencies, and data flows.
- Identify functionality currently dependent on legacy infrastructure and determine the appropriate approach for migration or modernization.
- Support the redesign, development, and migration of required functionality onto the current architecture.
- Work with services that consume data from upstream trading/data platforms and make that information available to downstream services and APIs.
- Collaborate closely with Front Office technology, development, and business stakeholders to validate existing functionality and future-state requirements.




- Participate in knowledge-transfer sessions with the existing team, particularly during the initial phase of the engagement.
- Support the overall objective of safely decommissioning legacy infrastructure while maintaining required business functionality.

Must-Have Skills & Qualifications

- Strong hands-on experience as a Backend Java Developer, ideally at a senior level.
- Strong experience with up-to-date/recent versions of Java and backend application development.
- Demonstrated ability to work with, analyze, and reverse-engineer existing or legacy Java codebases.
- Experience working within Financial Services / Capital Markets technology.
- Good understanding of Front Office concepts and trading environments.
- Understanding of financial products and derivatives, including fundamental concepts such as options and premiums.
- Experience working with backend services, APIs, integrations, and complex data flows.
- Ability to work independently in an environment where existing systems may have limited documentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Good-to-Have Skills
- Experience with FX Options.
- Experience within Commodities, particularly Precious Metals.
- Broader derivatives or trading technology experience.
- Experience supporting legacy modernization, platform migration, or infrastructure decommissioning initiatives.
- Exposure to Murex or Murex-related environments is beneficial but not required.
