Role & responsibilities The minimum requirements we seek:

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in engine performance modeling and simulation, with a focus on diesel engines, at a major automotive OEM or supplier.
- 7+ years of experience with 1D engine simulation tools such as GT-SUITE, AVL BOOST, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience with airpath modeling, including turbocharging, charge air coolers, and EGR/EGR cooler systems.
- Experience with both predictive and prescribed combustion modeling techniques.
- Experience with model correlation and calibration against dynamometer and/or vehicle-level test data.

Our preferred requirements

- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience modeling aftertreatment systems and devices, including TWC, DOC, DPF, and SCR.
- Working knowledge of emissions regulations (e.g., EPA, EU) applicable to diesel engines and their impact on system design.
- Familiarity with engine controls and calibration processes, and how simulation supports controls development.
- Experience with optimization techniques and tools applied to engine and aftertreatment system design.

Preferred candidate profile The Diesel Engine Performance & Aftertreatment Modeling Engineer in this role will:
- Develop and apply high-fidelity 1D engine simulation models (e.g., GT-SUITE or equivalent) to predict and optimize diesel engine performance (& gasoline), fuel efficiency, and emissions across the full operating range.
- Perform detailed airpath modeling and analysis, including turbocharger matching and control, charge air coolers, EGR systems, and EGR coolers, to support system-level design and optimization decisions.
- Develop and calibrate combustion, flow & heat transfer models, including both predictive (e.g., DI-Pulse, multi-zone) and prescribed (e.g., Wiebe-based) combustion approaches, to accurately represent in-cylinder processes and support combustion system development.
- Model and simulate aftertreatment systems and devices, including TWC, DOC, DPF, and SCR, to evaluate emissions compliance strategies and support aftertreatment system sizing and calibration.
- Correlate simulation models against dynamometer and vehicle test data, ensuring model accuracy and reliability across steady-state and transient conditions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, calibration, and controls teams to translate simulation insights into actionable design and development recommendations.
