Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Kinematic Engineer – Automotive Interior (Plastic Components) with 5–8 years of experience in automotive interior product development and mechanism design.
The candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, analyzing, and validating kinematic mechanisms for automotive interior plastic components. The role requires strong hands-on expertise in CATIA V5, DMU Kinematics, Part Design, Assembly Design, and GSD, along with good knowledge of plastic product design, manufacturing feasibility, GD&T;, and OEM requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop kinematic mechanisms for automotive interior components such as:
- Glove Boxes
- Center Console Lids
- Armrests
- Cup Holders
- Storage Compartments
- Air Vents
- HVAC-related interior mechanisms
- Perform motion studies, clearance checks, interference analysis, and mechanism validation using CATIA V5 DMU Kinematics.
- Create and modify 3D CAD models, assemblies, and mechanism layouts.
- Define and manage Degrees of Freedom (DOF), motion paths, end stops, opening/closing angles, and mechanism constraints.
- Develop robust plastic components considering ribs, bosses, snap-fits, draft angles, wall thickness, fillets,
and other plastic design principles.
- Conduct mechanism feasibility studies and optimize designs for smooth and reliable operation.
- Support DFMEA, design reviews, validation testing, durability testing, and root-cause analysis.
- Work closely with CAE/CFD, tooling, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and OEM customer teams.
- Ensure designs meet applicable OEM standards, specifications, GD&T; requirements, and project targets.
- Support prototype development, testing, issue resolution, and design modifications.
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, drawings, design reports, and technical data.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to achieve project milestones, quality requirements, and delivery timelines.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5–8 years of relevant experience in automotive interior product design and development.
- Strong hands-on experience in CATIA V5, especially:
- Part Design
- Assembly Design
- DMU Kinematics
- Generative Shape Design (GSD)
- Strong understanding of kinematic mechanism design and motion analysis.
- Experience in automotive interior plastic component development.
- Good knowledge of plastic part design and Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
- Knowledge of GD&T;,
tolerance stack-up, DFM/DFA, and engineering drawing standards.
- Understanding of automotive OEM development processes and standards.
- Good analytical, problem-solving, coordination, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with damped mechanisms, soft-close mechanisms, or controlled opening/closing systems.
- Experience in glove box, armrest, console, cup holder, air vent, HVAC, or storage mechanism design.
- Working knowledge of Siemens NX.
- Exposure to CATIA V6.
- Experience with ENOVIA / Teamcenter / PLM systems.
- Experience working with OEMs or Tier-1 automotive suppliers.
- Exposure to prototype, tooling, validation, and supplier development activities.
Education BE / B.Tech / ME / M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related discipline.
Candidate Profile The ideal candidate should have solid practical experience in automotive interior plastic mechanism design, be proficient in CATIA V5 DMU Kinematics, and have the ability to independently handle design, motion analysis, troubleshooting, and development activities from concept through validation.
