Job Summary

The Housekeeper will be responsible for maintaining a clean, hygienic, safe, and patient-friendly workplace at the HPHC. The role will ensure regular cleaning and sanitation of patient-care areas, offices, toilets, waiting areas, and other facility premises while adhering to infection-prevention, waste-management, and safety practices. The Housekeeper will work closely with the Medical Officer and HPHC team to maintain the overall cleanliness, hygiene, and upkeep of the health centre.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Clean and maintain all areas of the HPHC, including OPD rooms, consultation rooms, waiting areas, reception, pharmacy, laboratory, corridors, offices, and other facility premises.

- Ensure regular sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning, and disinfection of floors, doors, windows, furniture, and other surfaces.

- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of patient-care areas, staff areas, common areas,



and the facility surroundings throughout the working day.

- Clean and disinfect toilets, washrooms, washbasins, handwashing areas, and other sanitation facilities regularly.

- Ensure the availability of water and basic cleaning requirements in toilets, washrooms, and handwashing areas.

- Monitor cleanliness and hygiene of toilets and common areas during HPHC operating hours and promptly report any sanitation-related issues.

- Follow standard infection-prevention and control practices while carrying out cleaning and sanitation activities.

- Use appropriate PPE, including gloves, masks, and other protective equipment, as required while performing cleaning activities.

- Ensure proper cleaning and disinfection of frequently touched surfaces and areas requiring additional sanitation.

- Follow prescribed procedures for cleaning and disinfecting areas affected by spills, contamination, or other hygiene-related incidents.

- Maintain proper hand hygiene before and after cleaning activities and immediately report any infection-control or hygiene-related concerns to the supervisor.

- Support proper segregation and collection of biomedical and general waste as per HPHC and healthcare waste-management procedures.

- Ensure waste is placed in designated bins or containers and maintain cleanliness around waste-collection points.

- Avoid direct handling of biomedical waste and follow prescribed safety procedures and use appropriate PPE while handling waste.

- Immediately report any waste-management issues, leakage, spillage, or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.

- Maintain cleanliness of the HPHC entrance, pathways, surrounding areas, and other outdoor premises.

- Remove dust, cobwebs, visible dirt, and other waste to maintain a clean and welcoming environment for patients, attendants, and staff.





- Carry out additional cleaning and sanitation whenever required, particularly during periods of high patient flow.

- Support cleanliness and sanitation arrangements before and after health camps, outreach activities, meetings, and other HPHC programmes.

- Use cleaning materials, disinfectants, equipment, and other housekeeping supplies responsibly and avoid unnecessary wastage.

- Store cleaning materials and chemicals safely in designated areas and follow instructions regarding their proper use and handling.

- Monitor cleaning supplies and inform the supervisor about low stock, shortages, or any requirement for replenishment.

- Maintain basic records of cleaning materials and supplies, if assigned.

- Keep cleaning equipment and housekeeping tools clean, safe, and in good working condition, and report any damage or malfunction.

- Support the HPHC team during health camps, outreach activities, special programmes, and other facility-related activities.

- Assist in arranging and cleaning rooms before and after meetings, health camps, and other health-related activities.

- Support the movement and arrangement of basic non-medical items when required.

- Provide timely housekeeping and sanitation support during emergencies or situations requiring immediate cleaning.

- Immediately report accidents, injuries, broken equipment, water leakage, electrical hazards, plumbing issues, drainage problems, or other safety concerns to the supervisor.

- Work closely with the Medical Officer and HPHC team to maintain overall cleanliness, hygiene, safety, and upkeep of the health centre.

- Maintain punctuality, regular attendance, discipline, and adherence to HPHC operational requirements.

- Perform any other housekeeping and facility-support duties as assigned by the Medical Officer or Project Manager.
