HOME TEXTILE DESIGNER

The Home Textile Designer will conceptualise, design and develop commercially viable home textile and soft-furnishing products from trend research and customer briefs through CAD, material selection, sampling, corrections and final production approval.

Job Responsibilities (JR)
1. Design & Product Development
● Develop original designs, patterns, motifs, textures, colourways and coordinated collections across home-furnishing categories. ● Create concepts for print, embroidery, jacquard, dobby and other surface-design techniques.
● Convert trends and customer briefs into commercially viable, production-ready designs.
● Maintain accurate motif scale, repeats, placements, colour combinations and pattern matching.
● Develop coordinated schemes for curtains, cushions, upholstery, wallpapers, carpets and other soft furnishings.
● Understand curtain styles, pleats, headings, lining, blackout and sheer applications, as well as fabric width, consumption and end-use requirements.
1. CAD, Artwork & Documentation
● Prepare accurate CADs, repeats, placements, colour separations, colourways, mock-ups and production artwork using Photoshop and Illustrator; CorelDRAW or Textile CAD knowledge is preferred. ● Prepare technical specifications covering dimensions, artwork, construction and material requirements for sampling and production.
● Maintain organised digital artwork, design libraries and project documentation.
1. Trend, Market & Collection Research
● Research Indian and international home décor trends, including colours, textures, patterns, materials and finishes. ● Study competitor collections and market developments.
● Prepare mood boards, concept boards and seasonal presentations, translating research into saleable collections.
1. Fabric, Material & Colour Development
● Select suitable fabrics, yarns, constructions, accessories and finishes according to design, end use and commercial requirements. ● Apply knowledge of woven, printed, embroidered, jacquard, dobby and textured fabrics.
● Develop fabric qualities and finishes with sourcing teams and suppliers.
● Create coordinated colour palettes using Pantone or approved colour references and ensure consistency from artwork through production.
1. Sampling, Quality & Production Execution
● Issue clear sampling instructions and coordinate with sampling teams, suppliers, printers, embroiderers, weavers and other vendors. ● Review samples for colour, design, dimensions, measurements, workmanship, finishing and overall appearance.
● Implement corrections through final approval and ensure accurate bulk reproduction with minimal rework.
1. Cross-Functional Coordination
● Work closely with Sales, Merchandising, Purchase, Sampling,
Production and Quality teams to meet customer requirements and development timelines. ● Provide technical design support for customer presentations and resolve design or production issues as required.
Required Skills
● Strong understanding of colour, proportion, texture, pattern and home textiles.
● Proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator; CorelDRAW or Textile CAD knowledge preferred.
● Knowledge of print repeats, production artwork, printing, weaving, embroidery and finishing techniques.
● Ability to create professional mood boards and presentations.
● Strong attention to detail, communication and coordination skills.
● Ability to manage multiple developments and meet deadlines.
Qualification & Experience
Qualification: Degree/Diploma in Textile Design, Textile Technology, Fashion/Textile Design or a related discipline.
Preferred Experience: 3–7 years in home textiles, furnishing fabrics or soft furnishings.
A strong portfolio demonstrating home-textile collections, CADs, prints, patterns and completed products is essential.
