About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and hands-on HR Head to manage the complete employee lifecycle of a professional services organisation. The person should be comfortable working in a professional/consulting/CA-firm environment, where the workforce primarily comprises qualified professionals, CAs, analysts and other knowledge workers.
This is a hands-on role requiring strong ownership of HR operations, payroll coordination, employee onboarding, employee engagement and initial candidate screening.
Key Responsibilities
1. Payroll & Employee Compensation
- Month-on-month calculation/review of employee compensation and payroll inputs.
- Managing leave, attendance and payroll-related calculations.
- Ensuring appropriate statutory deductions, payments and compliance.
- Coordination with payroll/accounting teams and ensuring timely salary processing.
- Maintaining accurate employee records and HR documentation.
2. Employee Onboarding
- Managing the complete onboarding process for every new employee.
- Coordinating allocation of laptops and other IT assets.
- Creation of official email IDs and employee profiles.
- Onboarding employees on the firm's HR/employee management platform.
- Ensuring attendance, leave and other HR systems are activated from Day 1.
- Explaining company policies, procedures and employee guidelines.
- Coordinating joining kits, T-shirts, hampers and other employee requirements.
- Ensuring a smooth and professional joining experience.
3. Employee Lifecycle & HR Operations
- Handling employee queries and resolving routine HR-related issues.
- Maintaining employee documentation and HR records.
- Managing leave, attendance, employee movements and other HR processes.
- Supporting employee engagement and retention initiatives.
- Ensuring HR policies are communicated and implemented effectively.
4. Recruitment & Initial Screening
- Understanding manpower requirements from business/team heads.
- Conducting initial telephonic/video screening of candidates.
- Assessing communication skills, attitude, stability, professionalism and cultural fit.
- Understanding candidates' career history, motivations and salary expectations.
- Shortlisting suitable candidates for technical/functional interviews by the relevant team.
- Coordinating the interview and offer process.
Significant: The HR Head is not expected to conduct technical interviews for CA, audit or consulting roles. The primary responsibility is to conduct a strong first-level screening and ensure that only relevant candidates move to the technical interview stage.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience in HR within a CA firm, consulting firm, professional services organisation or similar knowledge-based organisation will be strongly preferred.
- Should have experience handling professionals rather than predominantly blue-collar/manufacturing workforces.
- Strong understanding of payroll, leave, attendance and statutory deductions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organised and comfortable with hands-on execution.
- Should be comfortable independently managing HR operations rather than only performing a specialised HR function.
- Good understanding of HR technology/platforms and employee management systems.
Preferred Background
Strong preference:
1. CA / Consulting / Professional Services firm
2. Consulting organisation
3. Professional/knowledge-based services company
Preferred: Candidates demonstrating approximately 23 years or more of stability with individual employers, wherever applicable.
Key Attributes
- Ownership mindset
- High attention to detail
- Strong communication
- Professional and mature approach
- Hands-on execution capability
- Ability to manage multiple HR activities simultaneously
- Employee-centric but process-oriented approach
