Google Workspace
- Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail, and Calendar. Comfortable moving documents between Google and Microsoft formats without wrecking the formatting.
AI Tools
- Working familiarity with AI assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini, or similar)
and real interest in using them well.
- Ability to write explicit, specific prompts and iterate when the first output misses.
- Sound judgment about AI's limits: verifying every citation, fact, and calculation before it leaves your desk, and never entering confidential client information into unapproved tools.
- Willingness to learn our internal AI drafting workflows and suggest improvements to them.
General Technology
- Adobe Acrobat: combining PDFs, OCR, Bates numbering, redaction, bookmarks, fillable forms.
- Legal case management software (MyCase, Clio, Smokeball, Filevine, or comparable) — experience with any one of these transfers.
- Video conferencing (Zoom, Teams) for remote hearings and client meetings.
- E-signature platforms (DocuSign, Adobe Sign).
- Basic troubleshooting — you can solve a printer, scanner, or login problem without stopping your day.
Personal Qualities
- Detail-oriented. In family law, a wrong date or a missing signature page has real consequences.
- Organized under deadline pressure. Multiple cases, multiple courts, competing due dates.
- Discreet. You'll handle financial records, medical information, and allegations that must stay confidential.
- Composed and compassionate. Clients are often anxious, angry, or grieving. You need to be kind without absorbing it.
- Self-directed. You ask good questions, then run with the answer.
- Coachable. You'll get feedback constantly in year one. That should energize you, not deflate you.
