Ready to take technical ownership of an embedded Linux platform?
We are looking for a highly experienced Embedded Linux / OpenWRT Engineer (Lead) to take end-to-end ownership of the OpenWRT-based operating system powering a connected device.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone equally comfortable defining technical direction, working deep in the Linux kernel, building production-grade firmware, and collaborating directly with hardware teams during board bring-up.
You will become a key technical owner within a distributed engineering squad across the Dominican Republic and India.
? What You’ll Own
- Own the OpenWRT SDK / Buildroot build pipeline, delivering reproducible and versioned firmware images.
- Configure and maintain the Linux kernel, including module selection, patches, and device tree configuration for the target SoC and radio hardware.
- Select, package, and maintain the required OpenWRT package set (opkg).
- Define technical direction, conduct code reviews, and mentor Device Driver, Embedded Systems, and Integration Engineers.
- Collaborate closely with the hardware/EE team and contract manufacturers on board bring-up, hardware validation, and design-for-manufacturing feedback.
- Design, implement, and own a signed OTA update mechanism from day one.
- Establish and maintain CI/CD for automated firmware builds using Buildbot or GitLab CI.
? What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional embedded Linux experience.
- At least 3 years working specifically with OpenWRT or comparable embedded Linux distributions such as Yocto or Buildroot.
- Deep hands-on experience with Linux kernel configuration and device drivers in C.
- Experience owning production firmware build and release pipelines,
ideally including OTA updates.
- Strong hardware-level troubleshooting capabilities, including board bring-up, JTAG, serial console debugging, and oscilloscope-level troubleshooting.
- Excellent written communication skills and the ability to provide technical leadership within a distributed international engineering team.
⭐ Preferred Experience
- Radio/RF chipsets — Wi-Fi, LTE, BLE — at the driver level.
- Previous Technical Lead or Team Lead experience.
- U-Boot and secure boot chains.
- Telecom and/or IoT device development.

✓ A documented technical roadmap and coding standards for the squad.
