SOLXCELLJob Description – Solar Installer
Position: Solar Installer / Solar Technician
Department: Installation & Operations
Location: Field / Project Sites
Reporting To: Site Supervisor / Operations Manager
1. Job Purpose
- To carry out safe, efficient, and quality installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of rooftop solar PV systems as per SOLXCELL standards and approved technical designs.
1. Key Responsibilities
- Install solar PV modules, mounting structures, inverters, DCDB/ACDB and other solar system components.
- Carry out rooftop mounting structure installation and proper module alignment.
- Perform DC and AC cable laying, dressing, termination, crimping and labelling.
- Install and maintain proper earthing and lightning protection systems.
- Follow approved electrical drawings, layouts and installation guidelines.
- Check module polarity, string connections, voltage and continuity before commissioning.
- Assist in inverter installation, configuration and commissioning.
- Ensure proper tightening of electrical and mechanical connections.
- Conduct basic testing of the solar system before handover.
- Maintain proper housekeeping and cleanliness at the installation site.
- Identify installation issues, material shortages or technical problems and report them to the supervisor.
- Follow all safety procedures while working at height and with electrical equipment.
- Use PPE such as safety helmet, safety shoes, gloves, safety belt/harness and other required safety equipment.
- Protect customer property, rooftop surfaces and installed equipment during work.
- Complete installation work within the assigned timeline.
- Take required installation photographs and submit site completion information.
- Support repair, maintenance and troubleshooting activities whenever required.
3. Quality & Safety ResponsibilitiesFollow
- SOLXCELL Installation SOP and Safety Standards.
- No compromise on electrical safety, earthing, cable routing and structural installation quality.
- Do not work at height without proper safety equipment.
- Ensure tools and equipment are used correctly and safely.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, accidents, damaged materials or technical issues.
- Maintain qualified behaviour at customer premises.
4. Required SkillsBasic knowledge of electrical systems and solar PV installation.
- Knowledge of DC/AC cabling and electrical connections.
- Basic understanding of solar panels, inverters and mounting structures.
- Ability to use electrical and mechanical hand tools.
- Ability to read basic electrical/solar drawings is preferred.
- Physically fit and comfortable working on rooftops and at height.
- Valuable teamwork and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel to different project sites.
5. Qualification & ExperienceEducation:
ITI Electrician / Wireman / Diploma Electrical or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
- Fresher candidates with relevant ITI/Diploma qualification may be considered.
- 1–3 years of experience in solar installation/electrical work preferred.
- 6. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Installation completion within planned timeline.
- Installation quality and compliance with SOLXCELL SOP.
- Zero major safety violations.
- Zero avoidable installation defects/rework.
- Proper cable dressing, termination and labelling.
- Proper earthing and electrical safety compliance.
- Correct documentation and site photographs.
- Customer/site-team coordination.
- Material and tool handling without unnecessary loss or damage.
7. Working Conditions
- Field-based job involving frequent travel to residential and commercial project sites.
- Work may involve rooftop installation and working at height.
- Working hours may vary depending on project requirements and site conditions.
- Must follow SOLXCELL's safety, attendance, travel and site-work policies.
