About the Role
We are looking for a CFD Engineer to join our Turbo Engineering team in Bangalore. The role involves performing CFD, aerodynamic and heat-transfer analyses to support the design, development and optimization of turbomachinery products.
You will work on complex fluid-flow problems involving compressors, turbines and related flow systems, using industry-standard CFD tools to evaluate performance, identify areas for improvement and provide engineering recommendations to the design and R&D; teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform 1D, 2D and 3D CFD analyses for turbomachinery applications.
- Perform aerodynamic and heat-transfer analyses to support product development and design optimization.
- Work on aerodynamic and flow performance analysis of bladed and non-bladed components.
- Analyze primary and secondary flow paths and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and performance.
- Develop and analyze single-phase and multiphase gas-flow models for complex fluid-dynamics investigations.
- Prepare and simplify complex geometries for CFD analysis.
- Perform CFD meshing and pre-processing activities.
- Set up and execute end-to-end CFD simulations, including:
- Model setup
- Boundary condition definition
- Solution execution
- Solution monitoring
- Result interpretation
- Perform CFD post-processing and analyze simulation results.
- Validate CFD results against aerodynamic and thermal performance requirements.
- Provide engineering recommendations based on simulation results.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation.
- Automate repetitive simulation and analysis activities using Python, Excel VBA or other scripting methods.
- Work closely with local and global R&D; and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver simulation-driven engineering solutions.
- Ensure projects and analysis activities are completed within defined timelines and quality standards.
Required Skills & Experience Must-Have
- 2 6 years of hands-on experience in CFD / turbomachinery aerodynamics.
- Experience in CFD analysis of compressors, turbines or related turbomachinery flow systems.
- Hands-on experience across the complete CFD workflow:
Geometry preparation Meshing Pre-processing Simulation setup Solution Post-processing Result interpretation
- Experience with ANSYS CFX.
- Experience with NUMECA AutoGrid / FINE Turbo.
- Experience with CFD pre-processing/geometry tools such as:
- ANSYS SpaceClaim
- TurboGrid
- ICEM CFD
- Experience with post-processing and data-analysis tools such as:
- CFD-Post
- Tecplot 360
- Excel VBA
- Python
- Good understanding of:
- Turbomachinery
- Axial and radial compressors
- Turbines
- Flow paths
- Aerodynamic phenomena
- Knowledge of fluid dynamics, aerodynamics and heat transfer.
- Understanding of analytical calculations and CFD validation techniques.
- Ability to interpret simulation results and convert them into practical engineering/design recommendations.
- Understanding of engineering specifications, customer requirements, industry codes, standards and design practices.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
Good to Have
- Experience with steam turbine systems.
- Understanding of turbine flow paths and performance characteristics.
- Knowledge of thermodynamic cycles and aero-thermal behavior.
- Experience with advanced scripting/programming for:
- CFD automation
- Data analysis
- Process optimization
- Workflow automation
- Experience with multiphase flow modelling.
- Knowledge of German language would be an advantage.
