Job Title: Senior Business Analyst
Role/Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst to work closely with Product and Engineering teams in an institutional investment management environment. The ideal candidate will be pragmatic, delivery-oriented, and comfortable operating with a degree of ambiguity. The role requires strong business analysis fundamentals, clear communication, structured thinking, and the ability to translate high-level product intent into actionable requirements while keeping an engineering squad focused on delivery.
Experience in Institutional Investment Management, including exposure to Asset Management, Public & Private Markets, and Investment Manager Research, is preferred; however, the primary emphasis is on strong BA execution and delivery leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a senior BA / delivery lead embedded with a dedicated engineering squad, owning day-to-day execution and delivery coordination.
- Elicit, analyze, and document business requirements, translating high-level product intent into clear user stories, functional requirements, and acceptance criteria.
- Build, refine, prioritize, and continuously maintain the team backlog in close partnership with Product and Engineering stakeholders.
- Lead and support agile ceremonies, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, and other delivery cadences as needed.
- Provide lightweight project management by tracking progress, risks, dependencies, priorities, and delivery commitments.
Product Backlog & Delivery Management
- Own the quality and readiness of the product backlog for the engineering squad.
- Break down business needs into clear, actionable stories with sufficient context, acceptance criteria, and dependencies.
- Continuously refine and prioritize the backlog based on business value, delivery needs, urgency, and technical dependencies.
- Work closely with Product and Engineering to clarify scope quickly and keep work moving without unnecessary blockers.
- Ensure the backlog remains current, visible,
and aligned with agreed priorities and expected outcomes.
Development & Agile Delivery
- Stay actively involved throughout the software development lifecycle, from requirement discovery through delivery and validation.
- Lead or facilitate agile ceremonies as needed and ensure the engineering team remains aligned on scope, priorities, and outcomes.
- Partner closely with engineers to answer questions, resolve ambiguity, surface dependencies, and unblock delivery.
- Support testing and validation, including UAT, to ensure delivered solutions meet business expectations and are usable.
Acting as a Primary Point of Contact
- Act as the connective point between Product, Engineering, and other business stakeholders for day-to-day delivery matters.
- Communicate status, risks, issues, dependencies, and decisions clearly and proactively to relevant stakeholders.
- Drive timely clarification and decision-making to support smooth execution and predictable delivery.
Communicating Business & Product Intent
- Develop a clear understanding of business objectives, user needs, and intended product outcomes.
- Translate business and product intent into structured requirements that engineering teams can understand and implement.
- Maintain alignment across Product, Engineering, and business stakeholders when priorities, requirements, or scope evolve.
Domain Knowledge & Business Understanding
- Experience working in Institutional Investment Management or a related financial services environment is preferred.
- Exposure to Asset Management, Public Markets, Private Markets, and/or Investment Manager Research is desirable.
- Apply domain context pragmatically while prioritizing strong analysis, structured problem-solving, and effective delivery execution.
Must-Have Skills:
- Solid business analysis fundamentals, including requirement elicitation, analysis, documentation, and validation.
- Proven experience writing high-quality user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional requirements for engineering teams.
- Strong backlog management, prioritization, and agile delivery experience.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, facilitation, and collaboration skills.
- Structured analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and comfort working with ambiguity.
- Ability to coordinate across Product, Engineering, QA, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
- Experience with story and backlog management tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps (ADO), or similar.
- Ability to track delivery progress, risks, dependencies, and decisions in a lightweight and practical manner.
- Experience supporting testing, validation, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
Good-to-Have Skills:
- Experience in Institutional Investment Management, Asset Management, Public/Private Markets, or Investment Manager Research.
- Agile / Scrum certification and familiarity with tools such as Visio, Draw.io, Miro, Figma, or SQL.
Experience Required:
8+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Senior Business Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, or similar delivery-focused role.
