ROLE: Manufacturing Lab Technician

About Role:

We are seeking engineers, technicians, and a machinist to help us complete construction of, and demonstrate, the world’s most energy effective humanoid robot. RangerMAX was brought to Plaksha University, in Chandigarh (Mohali) by Professor Andy Ruina

(ruina.org). The project is initially for 18 months and, with funding will go for at least

5 years. Eventually, the lab plans to expand to a space robotics center, developing robots for exploration of the moon and mars. The team will only be about 9 people, each with high level skills in at least one area, and each with abilities and energy to work across job-description boundaries. Projects: Biped, quadruped, anti-gravity simulator, motor

Testing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Operate and maintain workshop equipment: 3D printers (FDM and resin), laser cutter,

drill press, bench grinder, band saw, hand tools.
Perform general mechanical fabrication: cutting, drilling, tapping, deburring, filing,

bonding.
Assist with composite layup (carbon fiber shells, polyurethane foam molding) as needed.

Training will be provided.
Assemble mechanical subassemblies from engineering drawings and instructions.
Maintain workshop cleanliness, tool inventory,



and safety equipment.
Support the machinist and engineers with fixture setup, part handling, and inspection.
Track material inventory (aluminum stock, fasteners, adhesives, 3D printing filament,

consumables)

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION QUALIFICATION:

· ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

· Hands-on fabrication experience in any workshop or manufacturing workplace.

· Experience operating 3D printers (any type).

· Experience with adhesive bonding (epoxy, cyanoacrylate, threadlocker).

· Experience in a prototyping or R&D; workshop (not just production).

SKILLS:

· Ability to read basic mechanical drawings (dimensions, tolerances, thread callouts).

· Familiarity with common hand tools and basic power tools.

· Safety-conscious work habits.

· Willingness to learn new fabrication techniques (composites, 3D printing, laser cutting).

· Valuable Hindi and functional English communication.

· Familiarity with basic metrology tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges).
