Key Responsibilities
Dispensing & Compounding: Preparing and dispensing medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders.
Patient Counseling: Advising patients on medication use, side effects, potential drug interactions, and storage.
Collaboration: Working with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers to manage patient health.
Safety & Compliance: Maintaining a secure, clean workplace and adhering to all local, state, and federal regulations regarding controlled substances.
Inventory Control: Managing stock levels, including ordering, labeling, and ensuring medication freshness to prevent expiration.
Administration: Maintaining accurate patient records and medication histories.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education:
degree from an accredited program.
Licensure: State licensure is required, which generally involves passing exams like the NAPLEX.
Attention to Detail: Critical for ensuring accuracy in prescriptions and preventing medication errors.
Communication Skills: Necessary for counseling patients and collaborating with healthcare specialists.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in pharmacy computer systems and software.
