Key ResponsibilitiesIdentify and evaluate suppliers for raw materials, components, spare parts, consumables, and engineering items.
Review drawings, BOMs, specifications, and technical requirements before purchasing.
Prepare and issue RFQs (Request for Quotation) to suppliers.
Compare supplier quotations based on price, quality, lead time, payment terms, and technical compliance.
Negotiate price, delivery schedules, payment terms, and commercial conditions.
Prepare and release Purchase Orders (POs).
Follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery.
Coordinate with Production, Quality, Stores, Design, Maintenance, and Accounts.
Develop alternate suppliers and maintain an approved supplier base.
Monitor supplier performance regarding quality, cost, and delivery.
Handle material shortages, delayed deliveries, quality issues, and purchase-related discrepancies.
Support cost-reduction and value-engineering initiatives.




Maintain purchasing records, supplier quotations, POs, and other procurement documentation.
Use ERP/MRP systems for material planning, purchasing, inventory, and order tracking.

Technical KnowledgeA Purchase Engineer should ideally understand:
Engineering drawings and specifications
BOM (Bill of Materials)
Mechanical/electrical components
Raw materials such as steel, aluminium, copper, plastics, etc.
Machining, fabrication, casting, forging, sheet-metal processes
Fasteners, bearings, motors, pumps, valves, electrical components, etc.
Quality standards and inspection requirements
Basic costing and manufacturing processes
Inventory and material planning
Supplier qualification and evaluation
