Production Manager – Aluminium Façades

This role is tailored for an architectural façade manufacturing environment involving aluminium façade systems, skylights and related building-envelope products.

Job purpose

To plan, manage and control aluminium façade production so that products are manufactured safely, accurately, economically and according to approved drawings, project schedules and quality requirements.

Key responsibilities

Production planning and execution

- Execute production plans issued by PPC.
- Manage cutting, CNC machining, routing, drilling, assembly and packing activities.
- Ensure correct production sequencing for stick, unitised, semi-unitised, curtain-wall and cladding systems.
- Allocate manpower, machines, tools and workstations.
- Monitor daily production against planned quantities and project milestones.
- Coordinate production priorities with Engineering, PPC and Project Management.

Technical and drawing control

- Ensure production uses only approved and revision-controlled drawings.
- Verify profiles, accessories, glass, brackets, fasteners, gaskets and sealants before production.
- Review fabrication drawings, cutting lists, BOMs and assembly instructions.
- Identify design or constructability issues before production starts.
- Coordinate technical clarifications with the Engineering Department.

Quality control

- Ensure correct profile dimensions, cutting accuracy, drilling positions and assembly tolerances.
- Control joint preparation, corner crimping, screw fixing, sealing and gasket installation.
- Ensure correct use of approved sealants, tapes, fasteners and accessories.
- Coordinate first-piece inspection and in-process inspection with QA/QC.
- Reduce rejection, leakage risk, scratches, dents, colour mismatch and rework.
- Support mock-ups, performance testing and customer inspections.





Manpower and shop-floor management

- Supervise production supervisors and shift teams.
- Maintain skill matrices and arrange operator training.
- Monitor attendance, discipline, overtime and labour productivity.
- Establish standard work instructions for repetitive operations.
- Promote 5S, visual management and continuous improvement.

Material and inventory control

- Coordinate with Stores for timely availability of aluminium profiles and accessories.
- Control material identification, batch traceability and project-wise segregation.
- Minimise profile wastage and damage during handling.
- Ensure proper protection of finished components before dispatch.
- Report shortages, excess consumption and material discrepancies.

Equipment and maintenance

- Ensure proper operation of saws, CNC machines, routers, drilling machines, crimping machines and assembly tools.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance with the Maintenance Department.
- Report machine breakdowns and production losses promptly.
- Ensure calibration and condition of measuring instruments and jigs.

Safety and compliance

- Enforce PPE, secure material handling and machine-guarding requirements.
- Ensure safe use of sealants, solvents, adhesives and cutting equipment.
- Conduct toolbox talks and shop-floor safety inspections.
- Stop unsafe work and report incidents or near misses.
- Maintain good housekeeping and emergency access routes.

Dispatch and site coordination

- Coordinate packing and dispatch in the required installation sequence.
- Ensure identification marks, labels, packing lists and project documents are complete.
- Support site teams with installation feedback and technical clarification.
- Analyse site complaints and implement corrective actions in production.

Decision-making authority

The Production Manager may:

- Allocate manpower and production resources.
- Re-sequence work within approved project priorities.
- Hold defective or damaged material for inspection.
- Stop production where drawings, materials or safety conditions are inadequate.
- Recommend overtime, subcontracting or additional manpower.
- Initiate corrective action for recurring production problems.

Changes to design, specifications, material grades, finishes or approved drawings require Engineering and Quality approval.

Qualification

- Degree or diploma in Mechanical, Production, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering.
- Additional knowledge of aluminium façade systems, curtain walls, cladding or glazing is preferred.
- Knowledge of CAD drawings, BOMs, production planning and inspection procedures.

Experience

- 8–12 years in aluminium façade, curtain-wall, cladding, glazing or architectural metal manufacturing.
- Experience supervising a project-based, customised production environment.
- Experience with aluminium profiles, CNC machining, façade accessories and assembly tolerances.
- Exposure to site installation and façade mock-up requirements is desirable.
