Key Job Roles
- Production Planning
- Prepare daily/weekly production schedules.
- Plan machine allocation based on job requirements.
- Ensure jobs are completed within the committed delivery time.
- Coordinate priorities for urgent jobs.
- Pre-Press Coordination
- Coordinate with the pre-press team for CTP/plate preparation.
- Verify paper size, GSM, ink requirements, color specifications, and imposition.
- Ensure artwork and plates are approved before printing.
- Offset Printing Operations
- Supervise offset printing machines and operators.
- Monitor machine productivity, print quality, registration, color balance, and wastage.
- Handle issues related to paper feeding, ink-water balance, blanket, rollers, and registration.
- Ensure machines are utilized efficiently.
- Post-Press Coordination
- Coordinate cutting, folding, lamination, binding, UV coating, stitching, gluing, and other finishing processes.
- Ensure finished products meet customer specifications.
- Coordinate with external vendors when required.
- Quality Control
- Maintain consistent color and print quality throughout production.
- Check proofs/approved samples and first-off sheets.
- Reduce defects, reprints, and customer complaints.
- Implement quality-control procedures.
- Manpower Management
- Allocate operators and helpers according to workload.
- Monitor attendance, productivity, and discipline.
- Train employees in machine operation, quality, and safety.
- Manage shift requirements and overtime.
- Material Management
- Plan requirements for paper, ink, plates, chemicals, blankets, and other consumables.
- Coordinate with stores and purchase departments.
- Minimize paper and ink wastage.
- Monitor material usage against job estimates.
- Maintenance Coordination
- Coordinate preventive maintenance of printing machines.
- Report breakdowns and arrange repairs with maintenance teams/service engineers.
- Maintain machine performance and minimize downtime.
- Cost & Productivity Control
- Monitor production costs and machine-hour utilization.
- Control wastage and rework.
- Track production efficiency and downtime.
- Improve overall OEE/productivity where applicable.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain production records and job cards.
- Prepare daily production reports.
- Track job status, wastage, downtime, and output.
- Report production performance to senior management.
- Safety & Compliance
- Ensure workers follow printing-press safety procedures.
- Maintain proper housekeeping and 5S practices.
- Ensure secure handling and storage of inks, chemicals, and other materials.

Required Skills

Typical experience: For a Production Manager position, employers commonly look for 5–10+ years of printing-industry experience
