JOB PURPOSE

The Marker Supervisor is responsible for leading the marking team engaged in transferring cutting and fabrication data from approved engineering drawings onto steel plates and sections, ensuring dimensional accuracy, material optimisation, and adherence to production schedules for ship block and hull fabrication work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Study and interpret approved fabrication, cutting, and nesting drawings issued by the Design/Planning department.
- Supervise and allocate daily marking work to the marking team as per production schedule and priority list.
- Ensure accurate marking of plates and sections for cutting, including part numbers, orientation marks, bend lines, and reference/datum lines.
- Verify plate thickness, grade, and dimensions against drawing requirements before marking commences.
- Optimise plate/material utilisation through efficient nesting layouts to minimise wastage.
- Coordinate with the Cutting (Gas/Plasma/CNC) section to ensure marked plates are released in correct sequence.
- Cross-check marked plates for accuracy and completeness prior to handover for cutting; rectify discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain marking records, plate identification logs, and material traceability documentation.
- Liaise with QA/QC for dimensional checks and resolve marking-related non-conformities.
- Report drawing discrepancies, revisions, or material shortages to the Production Manager/Site Engineer without delay.




- Enforce safety practices and proper use of PPE within the marking area.
- Train and guide marking assistants on drawing reading, tools, and marking standards.
- Maintain daily progress reports and update production tracking sheets/registers.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

- ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Fabrication, or Ship Building Technology (or equivalent trade certification).
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in marking operations within shipbuilding, heavy fabrication, or structural steel industry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Proven experience in reading engineering/fabrication drawings and nesting layouts.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

- Solid drawing reading and interpretation skills (fabrication, cutting, and assembly drawings).
- Working knowledge of marking tools, templates, scribers, and measuring instruments (tape, calipers, squares).
- Familiarity with plate nesting principles and material optimisation.
- Basic computer literacy for maintaining logs/registers (MS Excel preferred).
- Good team leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety standards.

WORKING CONDITIONS

- Shop-floor / yard-based role with exposure to fabrication shed environment.
- May require standing for extended periods and working around cutting/welding operations.
- Adherence to factory safety norms and PPE usage is mandatory.

Pay: ₹13,976.00 - ₹20,221.00 per month
