Wesco is hiring a senior hands-on engineer to help build its next-generation Warehouse Execution System (WES) , a vendor-neutral orchestration platform connecting Wesco’s WMX/WMS with warehouse automation technologies such as conveyors, sortation, AS/RS, goods-to-person robotics, AMRs, packing systems, scanners, PLCs, and vendor WCS platforms. This is not a conventional application-development role. We are looking for someone who combines strong distributed-systems engineering with warehouse automation or industrial integration experience.
Core Responsibilities
- Contribute to design and build Warehouse Execution System(WES) core services for task lifecycle, orchestration, routing, exceptions, retry/replay, and audit.
- Develop stable canonical APIs between WMX and automation systems.
- Build and evolve a reusable vendor-adapter framework for REST, MQTT, OPC-UA, Sparkplug B, socket-based and other industrial protocols.
- Engineer cloud/edge execution patterns for resilience, buffering, disconnected operation, and reconciliation.
- Lead architecture decisions, design reviews, engineering standards, and reference implementations.
- Mentor engineers while remaining deeply hands-on in design and code.
Must-Have Experience
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, ideally in a senior/principal IC role.
- Solid Java, JavaScript and Spring Boot background.
- Strong experience of AI-assisted and accelerated coding with Claude/CoPilot/etc.
- Deep knowledge of distributed systems, including idempotency, retries, ordering, event-driven architecture, messaging, state machines, concurrency, and transactional patterns.
- Experience building production cloud platforms on Azure or another major cloud.
- Strong API, microservices, SQL, security, observability, and CI/CD experience.
- Ability to design systems where failures can trigger real-world physical consequences.
Strongly Preferred
Experience with one or more of:
- WES, WCS,
WMS or warehouse automation
- AS/RS, AMRs/AGVs, conveyors, sortation or goods-to-person systems
- PLC/SCADA or industrial integrations
- OPC-UA, MQTT, Sparkplug B, VDA 5050
- Azure Service Bus, Redis, Kubernetes, Terraform, OpenTelemetry
- Automation vendors such as Dematic, Lucas, Scallog, AutoStore, KPI/Queen City, PeakLogix or similar
