Quality Control / Quality Engineer
1. Position Details
Job Title: Quality Control / Quality Engineer
Department: Quality Control / Quality Assurance
Industry: Garment Accessories Manufacturing
Products: Buttons, Rivets, Patches, Labels and related accessories
Reports To: Quality Manager / Head of Quality
Factory Location: Ambernath, Thane, Maharashtra
Employment Type: Full-Time
2. Job Purpose
To ensure that all accessories manufactured by the company meet defined quality standards, customer specifications, dimensional requirements, appearance standards and production requirements.
The role requires a strong engineering mindset, excellent attention to detail and practical knowledge of manufacturing and quality-control techniques. The candidate will be responsible for identifying defects, preventing quality issues, improving processes and ensuring consistent quality from raw material through finished product.
3. Key Responsibilities
i. Incoming Material Quality Control
· Inspect incoming raw materials, components and purchased items against approved specifications.
· Verify dimensions, material, colour, finish and other quality parameters.
· Identify and segregate non-conforming materials.
· Maintain inspection records and communicate issues to Purchase/Production teams.
ii. In-Process Quality Control
· Conduct quality inspections at different stages of manufacturing.
· Monitor production processes for buttons, rivets, patches, labels and other accessories.
· Check dimensions, shape, colour, finish, printing, engraving, stitching, adhesion and workmanship as applicable.
· Ensure production is carried out according to approved samples, drawings and specifications.
· Identify defects at an early stage and prevent defective products from moving to the next process.
· Work closely with Production Supervisors and Operators to resolve quality issues.
iii. Final Quality Inspection
· Conduct final inspection of finished products before packing and dispatch.
· Verify finished goods against customer-approved samples, specifications, drawings and purchase orders.
· Check:
o Dimensions and tolerances
o Colour and shade
o Surface finish
o Printing/engraving
o Logo and artwork accuracy
o Stitching and attachment
o Adhesion
o Plating/coating
o Shape and appearance
o Functional performance
o Packaging and quantity
· Prepare inspection reports and release products that meet quality requirements.
4. Product-Specific Quality Responsibilities
Buttons
· Check size, thickness, shape and hole/attachment position.
· Inspect surface finish, plating, coating, colour and appearance.
· Check for scratches, dents, cracks, burrs and deformation.
· Verify logo, engraving and artwork against approved samples.
· Check attachment strength and functional requirements.
Rivets
· Check dimensions, material and component compatibility.
· Inspect plating/coating and surface finish.
· Check head shape, shank dimensions and assembly.
· Monitor burrs, cracks, deformation and other defects.
· Verify functional performance and strength where applicable.
Patches
· Inspect embroidery/printing quality.
· Check dimensions, shape, colour and artwork.
· Verify thread quality, stitching density and edge finishing.
· Check backing/adhesive quality where applicable.
· Ensure patches match the approved customer sample.
Labels
· Check dimensions, artwork, text, logo and colour.
· Verify printing,
weaving/embroidery and finishing quality.
· Check spelling, barcode/QR code and other customer-specific information.
· Inspect cutting, folding, stitching and adhesive application.
· Ensure 100% accuracy for critical customer information.
5. Engineering & Technical Responsibilities
· Read and interpret engineering drawings, product specifications and technical datasheets
· Understand dimensional tolerances and measurement methods.
· Use measuring instruments such as:
o Vernier caliper
o Micrometer
o Gauges
o Measuring scales
o Thickness gauges
o Colour/visual standards
o Other inspection equipment
· Establish inspection criteria based on product specifications.
· Assist in creating inspection standards and quality checklists.
· Identify process-related causes of defects using engineering principles.
· Support production teams in implementing corrective and preventive actions.
· Assist in new product development and sample approval from a quality perspective.
6. Quality Problem Solving
· Investigate customer complaints and internal quality failures.
· Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring defects.
· Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
· Use quality tools such as:
o 5 Why Analysis
o Fishbone/Ishikawa Analysis
o Pareto Analysis
o Check Sheets
o 8D methodology, where applicable
· Monitor corrective actions until effective closure.
· Identify opportunities to reduce rejection, rework and customer complaints.
7. Documentation & Reporting
· Maintain incoming, in-process and final inspection records.
· Prepare daily/weekly/monthly quality reports.
· Maintain rejection and defect analysis reports.
· Maintain approved samples and master specifications.
· Record non-conformities and corrective actions.
· Maintain calibration records for measuring instruments.
· Prepare quality reports for management and customers when required.
· Ensure proper traceability of inspected batches.

8. Quality Improvement
· Continuously identify opportunities to improve product and process quality.
· Work with Production and Engineering teams to reduce defects and wastage.
· Monitor key quality indicators such as:
o Rejection %
o Rework %
o Customer complaints
o First-pass yield
o Defect rate
o Supplier rejection
· Participate in process improvement and standardisation initiatives.
· Promote a "Right First Time" quality culture.
9. Candidate Profile
Education:
· Bachelor's/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related technical field.
· Candidates with relevant engineering/technical qualifications and strong manufacturing experience may also be considered.
Experience:
· Approximately 4–6 years of experience in Quality Control/Quality Assurance in a manufacturing environment.
· Experience in garment accessories, metal accessories, buttons, rivets, labels, patches, trims or similar products will be an advantage.

12. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Performance will be measured through:
· Reduction in internal rejection rate.
· Reduction in customer complaints.
· Improvement in first-pass quality.

· 6. Effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions.
· 7. Reduction in rework and wastage.
· 8. Compliance with approved samples/specifications.

· 10. Maintenance of quality documentation and traceability.
13. Authority & Accountability
The Quality Control Engineer is authorised and expected to:
· Hold or reject products that do not meet approved specifications.
· Stop or escalate production when a serious quality issue is identified.
· Raise non-conformance reports.
· Recommend corrective actions.
· Escalate repeated quality problems to the Quality Manager/Management.
· Ensure that only approved and conforming products are released for packing and dispatch.
The position is accountable for maintaining the company's quality standards and customer requirements across the assigned production processes.
14. Preferred Additional Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates having:
· ISO 9001 knowledge
· Internal Auditor training
· Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing knowledge
· 7 QC Tools knowledge
· Experience with AQL inspection
· Knowledge of calibration and measurement systems
· Experience handling customer audits
· Experience with garment buyer quality standards
· Knowledge of metal finishing, plating, coating, printing or embroidery processes.
15. Ideal Candidate – Summary
We are looking for an engineering-oriented Quality Control professional with an exceptional eye for detail who can identify even minor defects in garment accessories and understand why the defect occurred, how to correct it and how to prevent it from recurring.
The successful candidate should be equally comfortable inspecting products on the shop floor, checking measurements and specifications, analysing defects, working with production teams and preparing quality reports.
Note: Colour Blindness test will be mandatory for the candidate.
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹45,000.00 per month
