Job Description — Data / Social Media Analyst

Position: Data & Social Media Analyst
Department: Social Media & Digital Communications
Project: Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI)
Experience: 2–4 years in social media analytics, digital analytics, data analysis or a related field
Location: Delhi
Employment: Full-time

Role Overview
The Data & Social Media Analyst will be responsible for monitoring, analysing and interpreting social media and digital performance data across MoSPI's official platforms. The role will provide actionable insights to improve content performance, audience engagement, reach and overall digital communication strategy.

Key Responsibilities

- Monitor and analyse performance of MoSPI's social media platforms including X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and other relevant platforms.
- Track key metrics such as reach, impressions, engagement, engagement rate, video views, watch time, follower growth, clicks and audience demographics.
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly performance reports and dashboards.
- Analyse performance of individual posts, campaigns, reels, videos, infographics and other digital content.
- Identify high-performing and low-performing content and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Track trends, hashtags, conversations and public responses relevant to MoSPI, government schemes, statistical releases and national-level events.
- Conduct social listening and sentiment analysis to identify public perception, emerging issues, misinformation and important conversations.




- Monitor competitor/peer government ministry social media handles and benchmark performance and content strategies.
- Analyse audience behaviour and identify content preferences, peak engagement periods and platform-wise trends.
- Support the social media team with data-backed content recommendations, including suitable formats, topics, posting times and messaging approaches.
- Track performance of important campaigns, events, announcements and government initiatives.
- Analyse campaign KPIs against defined targets and prepare post-campaign reports.
- Identify unusual spikes/drops in engagement, reach or sentiment and flag them to the social media team.
- Maintain structured databases of social media performance data and campaign-wise analytics.
- Create visually clear dashboards, charts and presentations for internal reviews and client meetings.
- Coordinate with the Social Media Manager, content writers, designers, video team and account/project team to translate insights into actionable content strategies.
- Maintain records of monthly and cumulative social media growth and performance.
- Assist in preparing data-backed presentations and reports for MoSPI officials.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency of all reported figures before submission.

Skills & Qualifications

Education:
Graduate/Postgraduate in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Data Analytics, Marketing, Mass Communication, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

Technical Skills:

- Strong knowledge of Excel/Google Sheets
- Experience with social media analytics tools
- Knowledge of Google Analytics/GA4 preferred
- Experience with Power BI/Tableau/Looker Studio preferred
- Knowledge of social listening tools such as Brand24, Talkwalker, Meltwater or similar platforms preferred
- Good understanding of social media platform analytics
- Ability to create charts, dashboards and data presentations
- Solid analytical and numerical skills

- Understanding of government communication and public-sector social media will be an advantage
