Role Overview
Sea Blue Shipyard is seeking a seasoned Piping Supervisor with 10+ years of hands-on experience in ship repair, refit, and ship maintanance. The Piping Supervisor will lead, manage, and coordinate fabrication, pipe spool routing, installation, hydro-testing, and flushing operations across various marine systems (fuel, ballast, cooling, bilge, hydraulic, and fire main systems). This role ensures all piping work adheres to marine classification society standards, yard safety protocols, and project timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Execution & Supervision: Lead and supervise teams of pipe fitters, fabricators, welders, and subcontractors during pre-fabrication, on-board installation, and modification works.
- Drawing Interpretation & Layout: Interpret complex marine piping diagrams, P&IDs;, isometric drawings, spool drawings, and general arrangement (GA) drawings to guide field execution accurately.
- Material & Spool Handling: Verify pipe materials (Carbon Steel, Cu-Ni, Stainless Steel, GRE/GRP), fittings, valves, gaskets, and supports; ensure correct fit-up and alignment prior to welding/bolting.
- Pressure Testing & Commissioning: Coordinate and execute hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing, leak detection, and chemical/oil flushing procedures in compliance with approved inspection and test plans (ITP).
- Quality & Classification Compliance: Liaise with the QA/QC department, Ship Repair Managers, and Class Surveyors (e.g., IRS, DNV, ABS, LR) to witness tests and transparent punch lists.
- Planning & Manpower Allocation: Prepare daily work assignments, optimize resource utilization, monitor man-hour expenditures, and ensure shift handovers are smooth and documented.
- HSE Adherence: Enforce strict shipyard safety protocols (Hot Work permits, Confined Space Entry, gas-free certifications, and PPE compliance); conduct daily toolbox talks.
- Progress Tracking: Maintain daily logs of completed work, identify discrepancies or interferences on-board, and report progress and potential bottlenecks to the Piping Superintendent / Production Manager.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Marine Engineering, or ITI in Pipe Fitter / Fabrication with substantial field experience.
- Experience: Minimum 10 years of overall experience in piping fabrication and installation, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or foreman role within a shipyard, dry dock, or marine/offshore facility.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of marine piping systems, pipe routing in constrained engine room/tank spaces, welding processes (SMAW, GTAW), and piping joining systems (flanged, welded, Victaulic, press-fit).
- Standards & Codes: Familiarity with classification society rules (IRS, DNV, Lloyd's, ABS) as well as ASME B31.1 / B31.3 standards.
