Dialysis Procedure

Support

- Prepare the dialysis station, machine, consumables and required equipment before each treatment.

- Verify dialysis prescriptions and treatment parameters as instructed by the nephrologist/clinical team.

- Prepare and prime the dialysis machine and extracorporeal circuit according to established protocols.

- Assist with patient preparation and positioning before dialysis.

- Initiate, monitor and terminate dialysis procedures within the defined scope of practice.

- Monitor machine parameters, blood flow, dialysate flow, pressures, conductivity, temperature and other relevant indicators.

- Identify abnormal machine readings or treatment-related concerns and escalate immediately.

- Assist the clinical team during complications or emergencies occurring during dialysis.

B.

Patient

Monitoring & Safety

- Record pre-, intra- and post-dialysis vital signs and other required observations.

- Monitor patients continuously for signs of hypotension, hypertension, cramps, nausea, bleeding, fever, allergic reactions or other complications.

- Promptly report any change in patient condition to the Nursing Officer/Nephrologist.

- Ensure correct patient identification and verification of prescribed treatment parameters.

- Maintain patient privacy, dignity and comfort throughout the procedure.

- Follow established protocols for high-risk and emergency situations.

C.

Vascular Access

Support

- Assist with preparation and care of AV fistula,



AV graft and dialysis catheter sites as per hospital protocols and scope of practice.

- Maintain strict aseptic technique during vascular-access-related activities.

- Observe access sites for signs of infection, bleeding, swelling or other complications.

- Report abnormalities immediately to the clinical team.

D.

Infection

Prevention & Control

- Strictly follow hand-hygiene, aseptic technique and standard precautions.

- Follow dialysis-specific infection-control protocols.

- Ensure appropriate disinfection and cleaning of dialysis machines and patient-care areas.

- Correctly segregate and dispose of biomedical waste.

- Follow protocols for prevention of blood-borne infections and cross-contamination.

- Use PPE appropriately and ensure availability before commencing procedures.

E.

Equipment

Operation & Maintenance

- Operate dialysis machines and associated equipment safely and efficiently.

- Perform routine pre-use checks and identify equipment abnormalities.

- Ensure dialysis machines are cleaned, disinfected and maintained according to manufacturer and hospital protocols.

- Coordinate preventive maintenance and calibration with biomedical engineering teams.

- Maintain records of equipment cleaning, maintenance, calibration and service activities.

- Immediately report equipment malfunction and remove unsafe equipment from service as per protocol.Role & responsibilities
