Tool Room Engineer – Injection Molding

Job Purpose
Responsible for the maintenance, repair, modification, troubleshooting, and development of injection moulds/tools to ensure uninterrupted production, consistent component quality, and minimum mould downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out preventive and breakdown maintenance of injection moulds.
- Inspect moulds after production and identify wear, damage, flash, mismatch, leakage, and dimensional issues.
- Troubleshoot mould-related production problems.
- Perform mould repair, polishing, fitting, grinding, bench work, and component replacement.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams for mould-related issues.
- Analyze mould failures and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Maintain mould history, maintenance records, breakdown records, and spare-parts requirements.
- Plan and execute mould preventive-maintenance schedules based on shot count and production requirements.
- Support recent mould trials and mould validation.
- Study mould drawings and 2D/3D CAD data and assist in mould modifications.
- Coordinate with external tool rooms/vendors for specialised mould repair or component manufacturing.
- Ensure moulds are properly cleaned, preserved, identified, and stored after production.
- Support mould improvement activities to reduce cycle time, rejection, maintenance frequency, and downtime.
- Ensure tool-room activities comply with company quality, safety, and housekeeping standards.
Required Technical Skills
- Good knowledge of plastic injection mould construction and operation.
- Knowledge of mould steels, heat treatment, surface finishing, and wear mechanisms.
- Ability to read 2D mould drawings and understand 3D CAD models.
- Knowledge of mould fitting and assembly.
- Understanding of injection moulding defects and their relationship to mould/tooling problems.
- Basic knowledge of CNC, EDM, Wire EDM, surface grinding, milling, and conventional machining.
- Knowledge of measuring instruments such as Vernier caliper, micrometer, height gauge, dial gauge, and gauges.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD/SolidWorks or similar CAD software is an advantage.
- Ability to perform root-cause analysis and problem solving.
Qualification Diploma / BE / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die Making, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent.
Experience
Typically 2–5 years of experience in injection mould/tool-room maintenance, preferably in an automotive, engineering, consumer-products, or precision-plastics manufacturing environment.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
