About Medtronic LABS

At Medtronic LABS, we believe in the power of technology to transform lives, especially where healthcare systems are most fragile. As a mission-driven, non-profit health systems innovator, we design and scale tech-enabled care delivery models that bring essential health services closer to underserved communities. Our work strengthens primary healthcare and creates pathways to better health and equity for people with limited access to care.

This is a unique opportunity to apply your technology expertise for real-world impact. Not just building software, but enabling better care, greater chance, and lasting change for those who need it most.

Medtronic LABS operates in Kenya, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Bangladesh, Tanzania, India, Bhutan, and the United States. Our team values openness, shared purpose, and entrepreneurial drive. We offer meaningful growth for high-performing individuals who are aligned with our mission.

About the role

Owns the technical discipline of customising OpenPHC — the CCE and Next Steps — for the Indian context, across both pilot sites, each with their own clinical-protocol and integration variation, while keeping the codebase close enough to Medtronic LABS' global product that it doesn't fork unnecessarily. This role is what makes OpenPHC's accountability for “what's changing and why”, and the global Chief Technologist's alignment-advisory role, operational day to day rather than aspirational.

What you’ll do

- Customisation-delta tracking — maintains a clear, current record of every material difference between the India build and the global OpenPHC/CCE product, with the reasoning for each
- Site-specific configuration — implements the clinical-protocol and integration variations needed across the two OpenPHC pilot sites — AIIMS Ballabgarh (Haryana) and the pilot block in Rishikesh district (Uttarakhand) — as configuration wherever the architecture allows, not divergent code paths

- Global-alignment prep — prepares the technical brief the Architect and the Program Director use when a design-review ask goes to Medtronic LABS’ global Chief Technologist, grounded in a specific documented divergence
- Merge-path discipline — flags any customisation that would make a future upgrade from the global product difficult, before it's built, not after
- Cross-team consistency — works with both PODs' senior engineers so India-specific work follows the same customisation discipline on CCE and Next Steps alike
- Site Variant Privacy Alignment: Ensures state-specific pilot configurations (Ballabgarh, Rishikesh) adhere strictly to central DPDP rules without creating non-compliant local data forks.

Decision authority
- Decides how a given customisation is implemented — configuration, extension point, or override — within patterns the Architect has approved.
- Does not decide whether a strategic-level divergence from global architecture is acceptable; that escalates to the Architect and, for anything strategic, to the Program Director.

What we’re looking for Must-have
- 7+ years backend or full-stack engineering, with real experience adapting or localising an existing product for a new market or region — not building greenfield
- Comfortable reading and working within someone else's architecture rather than designing from scratch
- Experience with configuration-driven or plugin/extension-based customisation patterns, as distinct from forking a codebase
- A genuinely detail-oriented documentation habit — this role's value is largely in the delta register being trustworthy, not just existing
- AI-first, 10x mindset — uses AI tooling to keep the delta register and customisation work moving at 10x pace across two live sites, rather than tracking divergences by hand

Nice-to-have
- Prior work spanning multiple deployment sites or regions on a shared core product (e.g. multi-tenant or multi-country background)
- Comfort with git-based merge/rebase strategy for long-lived customised forks

Preferred education Tier 1 engineering institute preferred, not required.

Engagement type: Fixed-term consultancy

Duration: 12 months, fixed term
