How You'll Help Us Keep Climbing (Overview & Key Responsibilities) Customer Experience (CX) organization is founded on delivering the Delta Brand experience via welcoming, elevating, and caring service, offering distinctive and premium choices to our customers across all destinations, and personalizing the experience to create memorable connections and deepened relationship with Delta.
CX’s Center of Excellence team is established to unlock new capabilities for Personalization, Insights, and Analytics. This team will deliver tangible, immediate incremental value to Delta using Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, simulation, optimization, visualization, and advanced analytics.
The Center of Excellence (COE) team seeks a Sr AI ML Engineer to design, develop, operationalize, and support AI/ML solutions that drive measurable business value and enhance the customer experience. This role will partner closely with data scientists, data engineers, and business stakeholders to build scalable machine learning pipelines, productionize models, develop lightweight user-facing applications, and maintain reliable AI/ML solutions in production environments. The ideal candidate will combine strong software engineering fundamentals with practical experience across the AI/ML lifecycle, including model development, deployment, monitoring, automation, and ongoing optimization.
This individual will also contribute to establishing engineering best practices, ensuring model reliability and governance, and delivering insights and capabilities that help solve complex business problems across the customer journey.
Key Responsibilities ML Code & Repository Management
- Refactor and optimize Data Science and Machine Learning codebases using software engineering best practices, including modular design, documentation, testing, code reviews, and reusable components.
- Maintain ML code repositories in GitLab, ensuring effective version control, release management, and reproducibility of experiments through proper management of code, datasets, configurations, and model artifacts.
ML Pipeline Design & Automation
- Design, build, and maintain scalable AI/ML pipelines using AWS AI/ML services and enterprise-approved tooling.
- Automate key ML lifecycle stages including data ingestion, preprocessing, feature engineering, model training, validation, model serving, model registry, and retraining workflows.
- Integrate ML workflows with orchestration frameworks such as Apache Airflow and implement automated testing to ensure reliability and operational efficiency.
- Partner with data scientists to productionize models and establish scalable, repeatable deployment patterns.
Production Monitoring & Maintenance
- Own BAU operations of production AI/ML solutions, ensuring reliability, availability, and performance.
- Monitor model health, performance, and operational metrics using AWS monitoring tools and dashboards; investigate and remediate model drift, data drift, and other production issues.
- Coordinate model refresh and retraining activities and communicate model performance, operational metrics, and key insights to stakeholders on a defined cadence.
Collaboration & Governance
- Partner with data scientists, data engineers, UX designers, IT teams, and business stakeholders to operationalize AI/ML solutions aligned with business objectives.
- Maintain technical documentation, including system design, architecture, model lifecycle,
and operational procedures.
- Ensure compliance with Delta IT data governance, privacy, security, and regulatory requirements while promoting ML engineering best practices across the development lifecycle.
UI Development & Maintenance
- Develop and support lightweight web applications and user interfaces that enable business users to access AI/ML products and insights through self-service experiences.
- Integrate AI/ML models, APIs, and data services into user-facing applications while ensuring usability, reliability, and maintainability.
What You Need To Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
- 4+ years of professional experience as an AI/ML Engineer, or 2+ years of experience as an AI/ML Engineer combined with 2+ years of software engineering experience.
- Experience with one or more general-purpose programming languages including Python, Java, C/C++, R, or equivalent, along with solid SQL skills.
- Strong understanding of machine learning concepts and the end-to-end AI/ML lifecycle, including model development, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Hands-on experience developing AI/ML solutions using frameworks and libraries such as scikit-learn or equivalent.
- Experience building ML pipelines and deploying AI/ML solutions in cloud environments such as AWS or Azure.
- Experience working with source control systems (e.g., Git/GitLab) and software engineering best practices including code reviews, testing, and documentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications) Development experience with machine learning and AI frameworks such as TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, SageMaker, Azure AI, or equivalent technologies.
- Experience developing user-facing AI/ML applications using technologies such as Streamlit, Flask, FastAPI, Dash, React, or similar frameworks.
- Experience working with large-scale data processing and analytics platforms such as Spark, Hadoop, EMR, Databricks, or equivalent technologies.
- Experience with GenAI technologies,
including Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), prompt engineering, model evaluation, and agent-based AI applications.
- Familiarity with AI coding assistants and agentic development tools such as Claude Code, AWS Kiro, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar technologies.
