Job Overview The Senior Accountant is responsible for regulatory compliance, fixed asset accounting, and lease accounting for a multi-location California restaurant group. This individual contributor role reports to the Financial Controller and independently manages regulatory filings, the complete fixed asset lifecycle, and ASC 842 lease accounting while supporting month-end close, reconciliations, audits, cost recovery, and process documentation

Duties & Responsibilities

- - Own the regulatory filing calendar and ensure timely filings, payments, confirmations, and documentation.

- - Prepare California sales and use tax and other required regulatory filings.

- - Manage business licenses and operating permits.

- - Support sales/use tax and property tax audits and appeals.

- - Research regulatory changes and monitor compliance deadlines.

- - Manage the complete fixed asset lifecycle, including acquisitions, capitalization, CIP, depreciation, transfers, disposals, and retirements.

- - Reconcile fixed assets to the GL and maintain asset registers.

- - Review capital spending and capitalization.

- - Manage ASC 842 lease accounting and LeaseQuery.

- - Calculate percentage rent and review landlord reconciliations.

- - Identify and recover landlord overbillings.

- - Support month-end close, reconciliations, accruals, and audit workpapers.

- - Analyze commodity pricing variances and recover vendor overpayments.

- - Maintain accounting procedures and documentation.

- Education & Training

- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance,



or a related field. The position requires 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a multi-location restaurant, hospitality, retail, or similar environment. Hands-on experience with ASC 842 and lease accounting, regulatory filings, tax compliance, and fixed asset accounting is required. Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- - 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- - Strong knowledge of general accounting and reconciliations.

- - Robust fixed asset accounting knowledge, including CIP, capitalization, depreciation, and asset reconciliations.

- - Hands-on ASC 842 and lease accounting experience.

- - Experience with regulatory filings, tax compliance, or government reporting.

- - LeaseQuery or similar lease accounting software experience preferred.

- - Knowledge of California tax and regulatory requirements is a strong plus.

- - Advanced Microsoft Excel and solid analytical skills

- - Excellent attention to detail and organization.

- - Solid deadline-management skills.

- - Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- - Ability to work independently, take ownership, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
