- Direct Student Care:
- Provide immediate first aid and emergency care for injuries and illnesses.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to physician orders and school policies.
- Manage students with chronic health conditions (diabetes, asthma, seizures, allergies, etc.).
- Assess and monitor students' health status and report any concerns to parents/guardians and school administration.
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records.
- Health Promotion and Education:
- Develop and implement health education programs for students and staff on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, disease prevention, and safety.
- Regularly check the hair and nails of students.
- Provide health counseling and support to students.
- Promote a healthy school environment.
- Educate staff on health-related topics, such as recognizing signs and symptoms of common illnesses and administering first aid/CPR.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, and other school staff to address students' health needs.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding students' health concerns.
- Act as a liaison between the school and healthcare providers when needed.
- Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date health records, including height and weight.
- Manage medication administration and inventory.
- Develop and implement school health policies and procedures.
- Prepare reports and documentation as required.
- Assist in any tasks required by the Administration Team.
- Emergency Response:
- Develop and implement emergency response plans for medical emergencies.
- Participate in school safety drills.
- Provide training to staff on emergency procedures.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the relevant state.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Current certification in CPR and First Aid.
- Knowledge of school health policies and procedures.
- Valuable communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Vigilant, proactive, patient and calm.
- Knowledge of electronic health record systems.
- Ability to think promptly and take prompt action during emergencies.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy objects.
- Ability to respond quickly to emergencies.
- Ability to perform CPR.
