About the Role
EmpoweringCPO is building a new eProcurement platform for mid-market companies businesses too large for spreadsheets but priced out of enterprise suites like Coupa or SAP Ariba. Its core differentiator is built-in supplier SLA and performance management, drawing directly on real procurement operations experience.
This is a hands-on internship for someone curious about procurement processes and software testing, who wants real, direct exposure to how an early-stage product actually gets built and sold — not a back-office, make-work internship. You'll work on testing real features as they ship, learning how procurement software should reflect how procurement teams actually work, and getting a front-row seat (sometimes literally in the room) when we present the product to a prospective client. It's a steep learning curve, in-office, with direct mentorship — a strong stepping stone into procurement, product, or client-facing tech roles.
What You'll Do
Quality Assurance & Product Testing
- Execute structured test plans against each recent feature as it's built (starting with the requisition-to-purchase-order workflow, then supplier management, RFQs, SLA/scorecard tracking, and beyond).
- Go beyond scripted test cases — use your procurement background to probe edge cases a purely technical tester would miss (e.g., unusual approval hierarchies, budget exception handling, supplier onboarding gaps).
- Document issues clearly: steps to reproduce, expected vs. actual behavior, and severity, so engineering can act on them quickly.
- Verify that role-based permissions and approval logic match real-world procurement governance, not just the written spec.
Procurement Domain Input
- Bring hands-on procurement process knowledge (requisition-to-PO,
supplier management, SLA governance, RFQ/sourcing) to shape product decisions alongside the founder.
- Flag gaps between how the product works today and how procurement actually operates in practice, informed by real operational experience.
- Help define acceptance criteria for upcoming features, especially the supplier SLA and scorecard module — the product's core differentiator.
Client-Facing Presales & Demos
- Present and demo the product to prospective clients, translating procurement pain points into how ProcureLoop solves them.
- Support early design-partner conversations — gathering feedback, answering process-related questions, and building credibility with procurement buyers.
- Help prepare demo scripts, sales collateral, and answers to prospect questions grounded in real procurement expertise, not just product features.
What We're Looking For This is an entry-level, learning-focused role — we're not expecting deep prior experience in either procurement or QA. What matters most is genuine interest in both, sharpness, and a willingness to be hands-on:
- Educational background: pursuing or recently completed a degree in business, supply chain/operations management, commerce, or a related field. Engineering or computer science backgrounds are also welcome, especially if paired with an interest in procurement or business processes.
- Interest in procurement and/or software testing: some exposure to either side (a course, a prior internship, personal curiosity) is a plus, but not required — we'll teach you the procurement domain and the testing frameworks on the job.
- Comfort speaking up: willing to sit in on client conversations and eventually help present the product, even if that's new and a little uncomfortable at first — we'll coach you through it.
- Attention to detail and communication: able to follow a structured test checklist carefully and write clear, specific notes on what you find.
- Reliability and ownership: since this is an in-office, hands-on role working closely with the founder, we need someone who shows up consistently and takes the work seriously despite it being an internship.
Nice to Have
- Any prior internship or coursework touching procurement, supply chain, operations, or software QA.
- Basic familiarity with using software products/apps (you don't need to code, but comfort navigating a web app matters).
- Interest in eventually moving into product, procurement, or client-facing tech roles — this internship is designed as a genuine stepping stone in that direction.
What Success Looks Like by the End of the Internship
- Comfortably run through structured QA checklists independently and write bug reports engineering can act on without back-and-forth.
- Understand the core procurement workflows (requisition-to-PO, supplier management, approvals) well enough to spot when the product doesn't match how these actually work.
- Have sat in on, and ideally helped present part of, at least one live product demo to a prospective client or design partner.
