Role & Responsibilities:

We are looking for a Python Backend Engineer to join Snayu AI and work on the backend of our core software platform.

You will work closely with the founder and another backend/full-stack engineer to build and improve reliable backend services, execution workflows, and supporting infrastructure.

Your responsibilities will include

- Develop and maintain backend services using Python and asyncio.
- Build systems for dispatching, scheduling and coordinating background tasks.
- Work with PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy and Alembic for data storage and migrations.
- Design clean configuration and extension systems that are easy to maintain and expand.
- Investigate and fix issues involving services, processes, workers and logs on Linux.
- Handle failures, retries, concurrency and task execution reliably.
- Write tests and documentation for the systems you work on.
- Review code and discuss technical decisions with the rest of the engineering team.
- Help improve the architecture as the project grows rather than simply implementing isolated features.

You will initially work through an existing workflow from configuration to execution and database persistence, understand how the different components interact, and then take ownership of a real improvement or problem.

Required:

- Strong knowledge of Python.
- Valuable understanding of asyncio, asynchronous programming and concurrency.
- Practical experience with PostgreSQL and SQL.
- Experience with SQLAlchemy and Alembic.
- Comfortable working with Linux, services, processes and logs.
- Understanding of background workers, task queues or similar systems.
- Ability to investigate problems independently and explain the reasoning behind a solution.




- Good software engineering fundamentals and attention to maintainable code.

Good to have:

- Experience with task queues, orchestration or job dispatch systems.
- Experience designing configurable or modular systems.
- SAQ or similar task-queue experience.
- Pydantic / PydanticAI / workflow frameworks.
- Experience with vector databases or pgvector.
- Experience working on AI-related applications or developer tools.

AI experience is not required. If you have worked with distributed systems, worker processes, job queues or other backend infrastructure, that experience is highly relevant. Professional experience, open-source contributions, or a strong personal project can demonstrate your skills.

Working at Snayu AI

This is a 12-month paid engagement, with the possibility of continuing based on project requirements and mutual agreement.

We are a small team, so you will have meaningful ownership over the systems you work on. You will have the opportunity to influence how the backend develops.

We welcome the use of tools such as AI coding assistants. However, you should be comfortable reviewing and understanding the code you submit, including code generated with AI, and be able to explain how you tested and verified it.

Regular communication with the team through Discord is expected. We value people who ask questions, investigate problems and follow things through rather than waiting for detailed instructions.
