Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Purchase Engineer with 5+ years of experience in automotive wiring harness and electrical component procurement. The candidate will be responsible for end-to-end sourcing and procurement of automotive-grade wiring harnesses, wires, terminals, connectors, HST sleeves, Cot tube and related electrical components while ensuring quality, cost, delivery and technical compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle end-to-end procurement of automotive-grade wiring harnesses, cable assemblies, wires, connectors, terminals, seals, clips, conduits, sleeves, tapes, fuse holders, relays and electrical components.
- Study and understand BOM, wiring harness drawings, Electronics & electrical schematics, specifications and engineering change/revision requirements.
- Review PR requirements, production plans, project requirements and inventory levels to ensure timely material availability.
- Identify, evaluate and develop automotive-grade suppliers for wiring harnesses and electrical components.
- Float RFQs and obtain quotations from approved and potential suppliers.
- Prepare technical-commercial comparison statements and negotiate pricing, MOQ, tooling cost, payment terms and lead time.
- Conduct should-cost/cost analysis and price benchmarking for wires, terminals, connectors and complete harness assemblies.
- Release and manage POs as per approved commercial terms and material requirements.
- Follow up with suppliers for order confirmation, production status, dispatch and committed delivery dates.
- Maintain Open PO, shortage and supplier delivery trackers and ensure closure of overdue materials.
- Coordinate with R&D;/Design for BOM, drawing,
specification, revision and technical clarification.
- Coordinate with Quality/SQE for supplier qualification, sample approval, inspection, PPAP and quality-related issues.
- Ensure suppliers comply with applicable automotive customer requirements and quality standards.
- Ensure procurement is made according to the latest approved BOM and drawing revision.
- Handle supplier issues related to quality rejection, wrong part, quantity shortage, delivery delay and specification mismatch.
- Evaluate supplier capacity, manufacturing capability, tooling requirements and production lead time.
- Develop alternate suppliers for critical/high-lead-time components to avoid production stoppage.
- Coordinate with Stores and Quality for incoming material inspection, shortage, rejection and replacement.
- Monitor supplier performance based on QCD – Quality, Cost and Delivery.
- Maintain procurement documentation including RFQs, quotations, comparative statements, POs, supplier records, cost sheets and agreements.
- Work closely with Planning, Production, R&D;, Quality, Stores, Finance and Salse teams.
Automotive Quality & Supplier Development Good understanding of the following is preferred:
- IATF 16949
- Control Plan
- Supplier audits

- Customer-specific requirements (CSR)
Commercial & Costing Responsibilities
- Analyse supplier costing for raw material, wire, terminals, connectors, assembly labor, tooling and overheads.
- Negotiate annual price revisions with suppliers.
- Benchmark supplier prices against market levels.
- Identify opportunities for localization and alternate components.
- Track and report cost savings and cost avoidance.
- Support management in supplier selection based on technical capability, commercial competitiveness and supply capacity.
ERP & Reporting
- Hands-on experience in ERP procurement modules.
- PR-to-PO processing and PO amendments.
- Supplier master and item master coordination.
- Open PO and delivery tracking.
- Purchase MIS and shortage reports.
- Cost-saving and supplier-performance reports.
- Excel-based procurement analysis and tracking.

Qualification B.E./B. Tech/Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Automobile or related engineering discipline.
Experience: 5 years of relevant experience in Automotive Purchase/Procurement, Wiring Harness, Electrical Components or Auto Components manufacturing.
Preferred: Experience with automotive OEM/Tier-1/Tier-2 suppliers, wiring harness manufacturing, supplier development, PPAP/APQP and ERP/SAP.
Core Competency Expected at 4-5 Years The candidate should be able to independently manage:
BOM/Requirement → RFQ → Supplier Evaluation → Costing → Negotiation → Supplier Development → Sample/PPAP → PO → Production Follow-up → Quality Issues → Delivery → Cost Reduction and should be capable of handling automotive-grade wiring & harness procurement with minimal supervision.
