Product Designer

Location: Noida, Sector 62A | Work from Office

Experience: 5-10 Years | Full-time

We are not looking for someone who can simply draw furniture.

We are looking for someone who can think of furniture differently.

We are looking for a Product Designer who can think beyond existing furniture designs and create new, original furniture concepts for the UK market.

This is a physical product design role focused on furniture not UI/UX or digital product design.

We want someone who enjoys asking - What can we create differently? rather than simply

How do I make this drawing? The role involves understanding the market, identifying opportunities, developing concepts, exploring form, function and materials, and taking promising ideas towards prototypes and final products.

What Youll Do - Think & Create

- Research UK furniture trends, customer preferences and competitor products.
- Identify gaps, opportunities and new directions in the furniture market.
- Develop original furniture concepts based on market opportunities and customer needs.
- Explore new forms, proportions, functions, materials, colours and finishes.
- Challenge existing designs instead of simply making minor variations of them.
- Present your concepts and clearly explain the thinking behind your design decisions.

Develop Products

- Take ideas from initial concept through design development and prototyping.
- Develop concepts into practical, commercially viable furniture products.
- Work with prototypes, testing and feedback to refine designs.
- Balance aesthetics, functionality, comfort, durability and commercial requirements.
- Work closely with manufacturing and other teams to turn concepts into real products.

Understand the Product You don't need to be a structural engineer but you must understand how furniture works.

- Understand furniture materials such as wood, plywood, MDF, metal, foam, fabric and upholstery.

- Understand basic furniture construction, joints, hardware and mechanisms.
- Consider manufacturing feasibility while developing a design.
- Understand how design decisions affect material usage, cost, assembly and production.

Visualise & Communicate

- Create sketches, concepts and design presentations.
- Develop 3D models and visualisations to communicate ideas.
- Use CAD/3D software to develop and communicate product concepts.
- Prepare technical information required to move concepts towards prototyping and manufacturing.

What Were Looking For

1. Product Thinking - The most important thing is how you think.

- Naturally generates current ideas.
- Questions why a product is designed the way it is.
- Can identify opportunities for something new rather than only improve existing designs.
- Has strong visual and aesthetic judgement.
- Can turn an abstract idea into a tangible product concept.
- Is comfortable experimenting, testing and refining ideas.

1. Strong Furniture Design Sense

- Good understanding of proportion, form, aesthetics and functionality.
- Understanding of furniture materials, finishes and upholstery.
- Good knowledge of furniture construction, hardware and mechanisms.
- Ability to design furniture that looks good and makes practical sense.

1. Product Development Experience

- Experience developing physical products from concept to prototype.
- Experience working with prototypes and design iterations.
- Strong problem-solving ability.

- Ability to work with manufacturing teams and adapt designs based on real-world constraints.

1. Market Understanding

- Ability to research trends, competitors and customer preferences.
- Understanding of commercial furniture design.
- Exposure to the UK or other international furniture markets is preferred.

Education

Preferred backgrounds

- Product Design
- Industrial Design
- Furniture Design
- Industrial / Product Development
- Related design disciplines

Candidates from other backgrounds may also be considered if they have strong physical product design experience and an impressive furniture portfolio.

Portfolio Is Mandatory:

We want to see how you think not just how well you render.

Your portfolio should demonstrate your involvement in creating and developing products.

Ideally, we want to see:

Research Opportunity Ideas Concept Development Prototype Refinement Final Product A portfolio consisting mainly of beautiful renders of existing products will not be enough.

Who Should Not Apply

This role is probably not the right fit if your experience is primarily in:

- Interior design
- Modular kitchen/wardrobe design
- AutoCAD drafting
- Production/detailing
- 3D modelling without design ownership
- Reproducing existing furniture designs

We are looking for someone who can own the idea behind the product, not just execute the drawing. Experience - 5-10 years of relevant experience in Product Design, Industrial Design, Furniture Design or Physical Product Development.

Relevant experience and demonstrated product thinking matter more to us than simply the number of years on your CV.

What Youll Get to Work On

You will work on furniture products for the UK market and be involved in the journey from market research and concept creation to prototype, refinement and manufacturing.

Your ideas are expected to become real products not just drawings on a screen.
