Our Primary Vision Centre (PVC) in Kaza bridges the critical last-mile healthcare gap, ensuring high-altitude indigenous communities receive reliable primary eye care, early pathology detection, and dignified health services right at their doorstep.
About the Role
We are looking for a skilled, driven Optometrist to lead consultations, optical management, and rural eye care outreach based out of our Vision Centre in Kaza, Spiti Valley (Himachal Pradesh).
This is an chance for a clinician who wants their work to create tangible social impact while gaining unmatched experience in community health and remote healthcare delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive subjective and objective refractions, visual acuity tests, and preliminary ocular evaluations.
- Screen for common conditions such as cataracts, pterygium, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucomaand manage referral pathways to partner hospitals.
- Provide patient counseling on ocular hygiene, visual ergonomics, and prescribed corrective care.
- Oversee optical dispensing, lens verification, spectacle fitting, and basic inventory tracking.
- Maintain accurate records of patient examinations, test results, and daily clinical logs.
- Organize and lead community eye screening camps across remote villages and schools.
- Supervise and mentor an on-ground clinical assistant to ensure high standards of clinical hygiene, patient records, and registry maintenance.
- Participate in pan-India winter vision camps and mobile outreach programs.
Eligibility & Desired Candidate Profile
- Education: Bachelor of Optometry (B.Optom), B.Sc in Optometry, or Diploma in Optometry from a recognized institution.
- Experience: 13 years of clinical or community camp experience (dedicated fresh graduates with strong 1-year hospital internship training are encouraged to apply).
- Clinical Skills: Hands-on confidence in retinoscopy, auto-refraction, and tonometry.
- Digital & Admin Skills: Basic working knowledge of MS Excel / Google Sheets.
- Adaptability: Physically fit and genuinely enthusiastic about living and working in a remote, high-altitude mountain setting.
- Languages: Fluency in Hindi is essential for patient consultations; functional English for reporting.
Remuneration & Support
- Stipend: 18,000 - 20,000 per month (negotiable based on relevant clinical experience).
- Living Support: Comfortable accommodation and all daily meals are fully provided directly by MUSE in Kaza, ensuring zero personal living costs on the ground.
- Field Expenses: 100% covered travel, food, and lodging during all winter camps and official outreach tours.
