POSITION Technymon is looking for an engineer to work on the development, application and industrialisation of plain and composite bearing products .

The engineer will work across the complete engineering cycle: Customer Application Bearing Design Materials Tribology Manufacturing Process Tooling Testing Failure Analysis Product Improvement

This is a hands-on engineering position involving the design office, laboratory and manufacturing plant . The objective is to develop engineers who can eventually become specialists in bearing technology, tribology and manufacturing . KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Bearing Application Engineering Analyse customer applications and determine suitable bearing designs and materials based on:

Load and load type Speed and oscillation frequency PV conditions Temperature Lubrication Shaft material, hardness and surface finish Misalignment Environmental conditions Required service life Prepare bearing selection calculations and technical recommendations. 2. Bearing & Product Design Assist in the design and development of:

Plain bearings Fibre-wound composite bearings PTFE-lined bearings Metal-polymer composite bearings Bushes, thrust washers and specialised sliding components Work with:

Bearing geometry Wall thickness Clearances Tolerances Press fits Liner thickness Material combinations Counterface requirements GD&T; CAD drawings Support prototype development and design validation. 3. Tribology & Materials Develop practical knowledge of friction, wear and lubrication . Evaluate the interaction between: Bearing material + counterface + load + speed + temperature + environment + lubrication Work with materials including:

PTFE and filled PTFE PTFE fabrics and liners Fibre-reinforced composites Bronze Steel Copper alloys Polymer composites Surface treatments and coatings Assist in developing new material combinations and bearing constructions. 4. Manufacturing Process Development Work directly with the manufacturing team to develop and improve processes for bearing production. Depending on the product, this may include:





Strip preparation Stamping and forming Rolling Sintering Bronze powder deposition Metal plating Polymer/liner application Winding Calendering Pressing Machining Grinding Chamfering Tumbling/cleaning Surface treatment Inspection and finishing Understand the relationship between process parameters and final bearing performance . Investigate process variation and develop methods to improve:

Dimensional consistency Bond strength Surface quality Porosity Liner adhesion Material distribution Productivity Scrap Process capability 5. Tooling & Manufacturing Engineering Assist in the development and optimisation of tools, dies, fixtures and production equipment used to manufacture bearings. Responsibilities may include:

Tool and die design Forming tools Stamping tools Chamfering tools Winding fixtures Press tools Inspection fixtures Jigs and gauges Tool-life evaluation Tool optimisation Understand machining operations such as:

Turning Milling Grinding Drilling Forming CNC machining Work with the tool room and production teams to resolve tooling and process problems. 6. Testing & Validation Plan and conduct laboratory and production tests for bearing materials and finished components. Tests may include:

Friction Wear PV performance Load capacity Temperature Oscillating motion Rotational motion Dry operation Lubricated operation Environmental testing Dimensional and material testing Analyse test results and translate them into product and process improvements. 7. Failure Analysis Investigate failures from:

Laboratory testing Production Customer applications Determine the root cause of problems such as:

Excessive wear Seizure Delamination Liner failure Cracking Fatigue Deformation Corrosion Excessive friction Counterface damage Dimensional failure Use engineering analysis, microscopy, measurements, testing and process investigation to establish root cause. 8. Continuous Improvement Work with Production, Quality and Tool Room teams to improve manufacturing performance. Identify and reduce:

Scrap Rejection Rework Cycle time Tool wear Process variation Material wastage Use structured problem-solving methods such as:

5 Why Fishbone analysis DOE SPC Process capability analysis FMEA CANDIDATE PROFILE We are looking for an engineer with strong fundamentals and high mechanical curiosity , rather than someone who necessarily already has experience in tribology. Essential





Strong Mechanical/Production/Manufacturing engineering fundamentals Ability to understand engineering drawings Knowledge of manufacturing processes Basic understanding of materials and mechanics Ability to analyse experimental data Valuable problem-solving ability Ability to work hands-on in a manufacturing environment Willingness to learn and work across multiple engineering disciplines Desirable Knowledge of:

Tribology Bearings Friction and wear Materials science PTFE and polymers Metallurgy GD&T; CAD CNC machining Tool design Press tools Stamping/forming Sintering Plating/coating Heat treatment Failure analysis DOE/SPC THE TYPE OF ENGINEER WE WANT The ideal candidate is someone who wants to understand how and why a physical product works .

They should be comfortable asking: Why did this bearing wear? Why did the liner delaminate? Why did the bronze layer peel? Why did the tool produce variation? Why did the process produce scrap? What material should we change? What process parameter should we change? How do we prove that the change actually improved the product? The candidate should be prepared to spend time on the shop floor, in the laboratory and with machines , not only behind a computer.

EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS We are particularly interested in candidates from strong engineering institutions with a tradition in

Mechanical, Production, Manufacturing, Materials and related engineering disciplines , including CEG, MIT, ACT, GCT, UVCE, College of Engineering Trivandrum and other leading South Indian engineering colleges.

EXPERIENCE Fresh graduates with strong fundamentals will be considered. Candidates with

15 years' experience in any of the following areas will also be considered:

Bearing manufacturing Automotive components Precision engineering Tool & die Manufacturing engineering Materials Tribology Automotive R&D; Industrial machinery Quality/Process Engineering
