About California Design Den
California Design Den is a US premium home-textiles brand — bedding and bath — sold across the major US online marketplaces and national retailers. We are founder-led and profitable, with teams in the United States and India.
About the role
Amazon is the bulk of our business today. Our other marketplaces — Walmart, Target, Wayfair, Kohl's and Nordstrom — are the growth story, and right now they run as a part time extension of an Amazon-shaped week. We're hiring the person who owns them.
This is a commercial ownership role, not an account-management or listing-maintenance seat. You will own what we sell on every marketplace that isn't Amazon: the assortment, the pricing architecture, the promotional calendar, the retailer relationships, and the number.
What you'll own
- The growth number for Walmart, Target, Wayfair, Kohl's, Nordstrom and any channel we add.
- The channel plan — which SKUs, at what price architecture, with what promotional calendar, and why. A channel is not a mirror of the Amazon catalogue.
- Walmart first — concentrate our proven SKUs in WFS, run a coupon strategy aligned to the wider deal calendar, and bring Walmart advertising in-house.
- Channel advertising — own the budget and performance on Walmart Connect first, then the others as they scale.
- Retailer relationships — own the merchant and category-team relationship at each retailer: programme access, promotional slots, item-setup escalations, compliance.
- The pricing and margin case per channel — build it and bring it; retailer fee structures, fulfilment economics, competitive floor.
(Final pricing sits with our pricing function; you own the argument.)
- Channel health & competitive intelligence — keep constant watch on content quality, organic visibility and search rank, ratings and reviews, assortment coverage and in-stock availability, and competitors' pricing and promotions; surface the issues and the openings that move the growth number.
- Channel demand & availability — forecast demand by channel, flag fulfilment and stock constraints early, and make the case to supply chain to steer inventory toward the highest-value marketplace opportunities. (Allocation sits with supply chain; you own the forecast and the argument.)
- The business reviews — monthly and quarterly, written by you, leading with a recommendation.
- Expansion calls — the written read on any new channel: size of prize, cost to serve, and a recommendation with the numbers behind it.
What we're looking for
- 3–5 years growing a US marketplace or retail.com channel commercially — Walmart Marketplace / WFS strongly preferred, or Target Plus, Wayfair, or a retailer-dot-com account — with a P&L; or a growth number attached to your name.
- A builder, not a plan-manager. You've personally stood up assortment, in-housed ads,
and negotiated promotional slots for a channel — not relayed retailer requirements for one that already had a team.
- Commercially numerate: retailer fee structures, WFS and fulfilment economics, contribution margin, promotional lift and payback. You can build the case and defend it.
- You've run marketplace advertising at the level of budget, placement and return.
- You've managed a retailer merchant relationship directly and can point to something it unlocked.
- You read the channel like an operator — you watch content, search rank, reviews, stock and competitor moves, and act before they cost you the number.
- You write a business review that leads with a recommendation.
- Amazon literacy expected — these channels move with the Amazon deal calendar. Strong Amazon category-management or marketplace backgrounds are very welcome; what matters is that you've built a non-Amazon channel commercially.
- Home, textiles or a comparable considered-purchase consumer category is a plus.
Why this role is worth your time
- You own a set of channels outright and report to the head of the function — a founding channel role, not a seat in a channel team.
- Real scale behind Amazon to fund the bet, and a short path from idea to live.
- A company that will back a commercial owner with the tools and the mandate to grow.
How to apply
Apply here on LinkedIn with your CV and a short note (4–6 lines) on one marketplace channel you grew: where it started, what you changed, and where it ended — and the one thing you'd do first at Walmart.
