About Lawrence & Mayo
Lawrence & Mayo is a family-run optician with more than 100 stores across India, widely considered the market leader in customer service and customer satisfaction.
As we enter our 150th year in January 2027, we are looking for someone to take our premium and luxury frame and sunglass portfolio forward, building on the foundation and the processes already in place.
1. The Portfolio
Fifteen international brands, in both optical frames and sunglasses, across two tiers:
- Luxury. Cartier, Chanel and Prada among them, from around Rs. 25,000 upwards.
- Premium. Gucci, Versace, Mont Blanc, Prada Sport and others, broadly Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 35,000.
These are examples rather than the full list, and the portfolio grows as the business does. These brands sit in a curated set of showrooms, chosen for the customers who shop them. Every piece you select is on display and every choice is visible, which is what makes this the most interesting buying job in the business.
2. What the Role Actually Is
- Own the ordering cycle for the portfolio. You read the sales and stock data and decide what to reorder, in what quantity, and for which showrooms.
- Work to three collection releases a year, in February, July and December. Between them you analyse what sold from the repeat collection and get the replenishment order ready. When the new collection drops, you build the selection for the showrooms that have earned it and place one combined order.
- Build your view on current collections. You prepare the shortlist with the data behind it, alongside colleagues who know these brands well and will help you build your own feel for them.
The selection call opens up to you as your judgement of the portfolio develops.
- Work alongside the Senior Manager, who holds the high-volume portfolio, and with the wider product team.
This is the part of our business where product judgement counts for most. The data tells you a great deal, and the rest is the feel you build for these brands and the customers who buy them. 3. Who We Are Looking For
- Four to seven years in retail buying, assortment planning, inventory management or supply chain analytics. Optical industry experience is welcome but not required.
- A feel for premium and luxury product. You can look at a collection and see what will sell, to whom, and in which showroom. This segment is nuanced, and you will be taught ours by people who have worked it for years. Experience in luxury eyewear, fashion, accessories or jewellery all counts.
- Strong with data. Advanced Excel, and confident working from large sales and stock datasets. The role rewards analysis and taste in equal measure.
- Disciplined. Three collection windows a year. Hitting them keeps the range fresh in every showroom and keeps sales moving.
- Education. A bachelor's degree is required; an MBA or a supply chain qualification is preferred.
4. Why It Is Worth Your Time
- A chance to work directly with designer houses on the latest in eyewear fashion, including some of the most recognised names in the world.
- Fifteen brands to call your own, with your judgement at the centre of what we buy.
- Decisions you can see. Within the quarter you will know how what you chose performed, and carry that into the next window.
- A function that is growing, with scope to take on more as you establish yourself.
