Position: Lead Service Engineer – Advanced Laboratory Equipments
Location: [Hyderabad, India] - pan-India travel
Experience: 6+ years
About the Role
We need an engineer who is comfortable with two sides of Engineering Domain's: the mechanical motion (stirrers, lift mechanisms, seals, couplings) and the instrumentation brain (temperature sensors, PID control, dosing systems, touchscreens).
Key Responsibilities
Mechatronics Core
- Install, commission, and service systems majorly in Pharma, Chemical and other industries
- Diagnose electromechanical faults: stirrer motors, drive electronics, magnetic couplings, lift/tilt mechanisms, dosing pump assemblies
- Contribute to sensor mounting, wiring, shielding, and grounding practices
- Align and calibrate motion systems; replace bearings, seals, belts, and drive components to OEM spec
Instrumentation & Control
- Calibrate and verify Pt100 probes, thermocouples, pressure sensors, load/torque sensors, and balances
- Assist in selecting appropriate sensors (temperature, pressure, vibration, etc.) based on system requirements
- Troubleshoot PID temperature-control loops: overshoot, oscillation, sluggish ramps, sensor lag
- Distinguish between sensor fault, controller fault, circulator capacity limit, and process/chemistry behavior
- Handle firmware updates, controller board replacement, touchscreen/HMI issues, and PC/software connectivity
Calibration & Compliance
- Maintain calibration traceability (dry-block calibrators, reference thermometers)
for GMP/GLP audits
- Execute IQ/OQ protocols and produce audit-ready service and calibration reports
- Follow pharma and other industry standards and safety practices during instrumentation activities.
Customer & Commercial Support
- Train users on correct operation and preventive care
- Manage spare-parts stock, warranty claims, and escalations to OEM support
Education
- B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Mechatronics Engineering, or Instrumentation & Control / E&I; with solid mechanical aptitude
Technical Skills (Mechatronics)
- Motors (DC, BLDC, stepper), drives, gearheads, encoders, coupling alignment
- Reading mechanical drawings and exploded views; precision assembly of small mechanisms
- Basics of pumps, valves, and fluid dosing systems
Technical Skills (Instrumentation)
- Sensors: Pt100/RTD, thermocouples, pressure transducers — wiring, signal types (4–20 mA, 0–10 V), error sources
- PID control theory: tuning concepts, loop behavior diagnosis
- Multimeter-level electrical diagnostics; power supplies, PCBs, connectors, EMI/earthing basics
- Calibration methods and traceability documentation
Advantageous knowledge (trainable)
- Heat transfer basics
- Pharma context: IQ/OQ/PQ, GMP documentation andaudit trails
Soft Skills
- Clear English communication with R&D; scientists and lab managers
- Meticulous documentation habits; safety-first working style
- Willingness for pan-India travel
