Preferred candidate profile

- 8 to 15 years of experience in Urban Planning / Urban Development / Urban Resilience / Disaster Risk Reduction, with hands-on exposure to city/area planning and risk-informed development for Mountain regions.
- Robust experience in disaster risk, vulnerability/risk assessment and resilience planning, preferably with Government/ULB/Urban Development Authority projects.
- Himalayan region experience preferred, along with exposure to GIS/spatial planning, stakeholder management and development of resilience plans/frameworks.

Role & responsibilities

- Lead and manage resilience projects focused on urban and regional disaster risk reduction, climate resilience and preparedness.
- Work with Government departments, Urban Local Bodies, Urban Development Authorities and Disaster Management Authorities to integrate disaster risk reduction into city and area planning.
- Assess disaster risks, hazards and vulnerabilities of cities and regions and translate findings into practical planning and resilience interventions.
- Support development of risk-informed urban plans, resilience frameworks, development plans, SOPs, guidelines and technical documents.




- Examine urban development, infrastructure, land use and spatial planning from a disaster-risk and resilience perspective and recommend suitable mitigation measures.
- For the Himalayan region, identify vulnerable cities/areas, undertake risk and vulnerability assessments, and develop appropriate resilience and preparedness strategies.
- Coordinate with urban planners, technical agencies, government authorities, experts and community stakeholders for implementation of resilience initiatives.
- Develop and conduct training programmes, workshops, awareness programmes and capacity-building initiatives for government and other stakeholders.
- Prepare research studies, urban issue briefs, reports, policy recommendations, IEC materials and technical presentations related to urban resilience and DRR.
- Lead project planning, stakeholder coordination, monitoring, reporting and documentation, ensuring timely delivery of project outputs.
- Promote risk-informed development, disaster preparedness, resilience planning and Build Back Better approaches.
